Cisco Jabber Video for TelePresence (Jabber Video) is an application that extends the reach of telepresence. Jabber Video works with a PC or Mac with a webcam to provide high-definition video communications to more people, on more devices, from more places. Jabber Video can connect to telepresence systems, resulting in a wider community allowing for classes and meetings to bring guest speakers from anywhere around the world to help facilitate blended learning in and out of our classrooms.
What do I need to participate in a Blackboard Collaborate session?
In order to access Blackboard Collaborate for the first time you will need to ensure:
1. You are using the computer on which you will attend your session.
2. You are using the computer on which you will attend your session.
3. You have a microphone and speakers, preferably a headset to take full advantage of the collaborative capabilities during your session. Please check with the organization or instructor hosting the session if they will be using these features.
4. You have the appropriate permissions to save files to your computer. If you are unsure, please contact your system administrator.

Can I access Blackboard Collaborate from my mobile device?
Yes, mobile users can download the mobile application here. However, we recommend that moderators access the session from a laptop or desktop in order to use all features.
Is there a way for me to rehearse a Blackboad Collaborate session?
Yes! Email firstname.lastname@example.org to get training and to set-up a practice session. We highly recommend that you do a low-stakes practice session with your students.
What else can I do to prepare for a Blackboard Collaborate session?
First time users should make sure that their operating system and Java software are compatible and up to date. Click the “system requirements for Blackboard Collaborate Web Conferencing” link on this page to check your system. You should get two green checks. For help updating Java, contact the HelpDesk at 914-773-3333 during working hours.
Enter the session early to test your audio by completing the audio set-up wizard (look for the icon that looks like a blue microphone on top of a red gear).

How do I enter a session when I am ready to begin?
There will be a purple icon next to the session title when the session is available. Click the icon or the session name to enter the session. You will be prompted to load or update Java. Open the file to start the session and select “run” when the pop up appears.
If you have trouble entering the session, you may need to download the Collaborate Launcher. There will be a prompt to download the launcher beneath the “Join Room” button (seen after clicking the active session). You only need to download the launcher once.
I am unable to load a Blackboard Collaborate session. What should I do?
Double check that the session is available. If you are accessing a Collaborate session through Blackboard, you will see a purple icon next to the session title if it is active. Otherwise, check with the session moderator.
Try switching browsers. Mozilla Firefox usually works best.

I cannot hear anyone in the session and/org they cannot hear me.
Be sure to complete the audio set-up wizard at the beginning of each session to check your microphone and speakers. To start the wizard, click the icon at the top right of the webcam box that looks like a blue microphone with a red gear. Or, from the menu on the top right, click Tools>Audio> Audio Set-Up Wizard.
If you are using a headset, make sure the volume is turned up on the device.
I cannot view anyone's webcam in the session and/or they cannot view me.
To be sure your webcam is set-up properly, complete the Video Set-Up Wizard by following these steps:
1. From the menu on the top left, select Tools > Video > Camera Settings > Select the Camera to Use.

Where can I find my recording?
Once the session has ended, students and instructors can find the recording by entering the Blackboard course and clicking Tools>Blackboard Collaborate> Recordings.
The session has ended, but my recording is not showing up.
The recording will not appear until all users have left the session and the recording has been stopped. Moderators should make sure all participants exit the session. If the session has already ended, moderators will need to edit the session to extend the end date so they can re-open the session and remove any remaining users. To remove users, right click over the participants name and click “remove participant.”Instructors should also manually stop the recording by unclicking the “Record” button before exiting themselves. If the session is set to automatically record the session, instructors will need to manual end the session by clicking select Help > Leave Recording.
