There are moments in an institution’s history that define its existence. These
are moments when great challenges are turned into opportunity, when progress
becomes greatness, and when dreams become reality.
Our founding nearly a century ago was one such moment, when Homer and
Charles Pace borrowed $600 to rent a classroom in the old Tribune building
in lower Manhattan to teach 13 men and women the principles of accounting
and business law. The evolution to college status in 1948 and to university status
in 1973 were other such moments, as was the acquisition of the Pleasantville
campus in 1963.
Today, Pace University finds itself at yet another defining time, perhaps the most
crucial in our history, a time of both need and opportunity.
It’s time to ensure Pace’s place and prominence in delivering higher education and
preparing its graduates for leadership positions in tomorrow’s economy.
It’s time to improve the ways in which we meet our students’ needs—including
access to courses and faculty members, to financial aid, to advising, and to the
latest technology.
It’s time for each student to leave Pace not only with the knowledge and practical
skills to advance their careers, but also with a firm belief in the importance of
engaging in the civic and social activities of their community.
It’s time to ensure that we attract and retain the best faculty, provide them with
the resources that will encourage innovation and creativity in the classroom, and
support them as they mentor and guide our students beyond the classroom.
It’s time to provide world-class facilities where the teaching and learning relationship
between faculty and students is enhanced by technology and environment, and
where life outside the classroom is enriched with cultural, community, and social
opportunities.
An unprecedented opportunity now awaits you. Pace University’s It’s Time: The
Centennial Campaign is aimed at directing this remarkable university toward new
heights of excellence in terms of student financial aid, faculty support, student
learning opportunities, and facilities and grounds. This monumental endeavor will
require a renewed commitment from all who hold Pace dear. It will allow the University
to reaffirm and further its position as a renowned and distinctive private institution of
higher education.
