WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - The Puerto Rican Legal
Defense & Education Fund (PRLDEF) will host its eighteenth annual
Law Day program from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, November 4, 2000 at
Pace University School of Law, 78 North Broadway, White Plains, N.Y.
Law Day is a national recruitment program for prospective students and
for law schools that have demonstrated a commitment to diversity.
The morning session, "The Law School
Application Process," will include an interactive discussion
about the "ins and outs" of gaining law school admission.
Members of the panel will include Luis J. DeGraffe, Esq., professor at
CUNY School of Law, Patricia Johnson, Esq., professor at John Jay
College of Criminal Justice, David Cohen, dean at Pace University
School of Law, and Juan A. Figueroa, Esq., president and general
counsel of PRLDEF.
Two new workshops have been added to Law Day.
"Beyond the LSAT: Non-quantitative Factors that Make You a More
Attractive Applicant," will provide students with an overview of
other factors, such as age, work experience, writing skills and
letters of recommendation, that can be emphasized in the application
process. "The Advantages of Applying Outside of the Metropolitan
Area," will inform students of the financial advantages of
applying to law school outside of the New York area.
More than 60 law schools from across the United
States will participate in a three-hour recruitment session in the
afternoon. Admission directors, minority recruitment officers and
faculty will be available to answer questions, distribute applications
and catalogues, and provide information on financial aid.
PRLDEF's Education Division has served the
community for over 25 years. Other PRLDEF programs include LSAT
preparatory courses, financial aid workshops and personal statement
writing seminars.
Founded in 1976, Pace Law School is located in
White Plains, N.Y., 20 miles north of New York City. The School offers
the J.D. program for full-time, and part-time day and evening
students. Its post-graduate program includes the LL.M. and S.J.D.
degrees in environmental Law and the LL.M. in Comparative Legal
