Pace Law School Receives the International
Association of
Law Libraries Award for its CISG Database
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – On December 3rd, Pace Law School was
presented with the International Association of Law Libraries Award of
2002 in the non- commercial website category. This honor was given in
recognition of Pace Law School’s outstanding CISG database, a joint
offering of the International Institute of Commercial Law at Pace
University School of Law and the Pace University School of Law
Library. The Association’s selection panel consisted of Lisbeth
Rasmussen, University of Copenhagen, Jules Winterton, Institute of
Advanced Legal Studies, James Butler, The Supreme Court of Victoria,
and Lyonette Louis-Jacques, University of Chicago.
The CISG is the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the
International Sale of Goods, the Uniform International Sales Law of
Countries that account for two-thirds of all world trade. Pace Law
School was lauded for its commitment to making available extensive
primary and secondary legal materials on the topic through its CISG
database. In its ongoing development, the database now has over 1,000
judicial and arbitral case presentations and 5,000 case annotations
are being assembled. In addition, with the collaboration of the Queen
Mary Case Translation Programme, University of London, it now has over
300 cases translated into English with many more in progress. Because
of these and other enhancements, the database receives over three
million "hits" per year from researchers in over 144
countries and is linked to by approximately 1,000 other web sites.
The Association’s selection panel stated, "We would like to
encourage the development of useful, authoritative, reliable and
user-friendly sites. We chose Pace Law School’s CISG website because
it lives formidably up to the qualities we were looking for. A great
project- containing nearly all information about CISG gathered in one
site. They show us the way to get a successful partnership worldwide,
through its innovative site."
