Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg Names
Robert G. M. Keating Vice Chair of the
Mayor's Committee on the Judiciary

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., March 3
 –
Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg has appointed Robert B. Keating the new Vice Chair of the Mayor’s Committee on the Judiciary. Robert B. Keating is currently the Director of the Center for Judicial Studies at Pace Law School.

As Vice Chair of the Mayor’s Committee, Robert B. Keating will submit recommendations to Mayor Bloomberg for appointments to the Family Court and the Criminal Court, and interim appointments to the Civil Court. Keating was selected to this position due to his exceptionally distinguished and prestigious career and unparalleled knowledge of the courts system and what qualities the best judges possess.

He brings these same qualities to his role as Director of the Center for Judicial Studies at Pace Law School. The Center for Judicial Studies will help the New York Unifies Court System analyze societal, technological and legislative changes that impact on judicial performance.

The Center for Judicial Studies was created as an academic and research partner for the State Judicial Institute—the first judicial training and research facility in the nation built by and for a state court system, housed at Pace Law School. This past October, Governor George E. Pataki and Chief Judge Judith S. Kaye joined with state and local officials celebrated the groundbreaking of the Judicial Institute, which is slatted to open in early 2003.

Keating is currently the Director of the Center for Judicial Studies and a Distinguished Scholar in Residence at Pace Law School. Since 2000, he has severed as Chairman of Management Techniques Inc. Prior to that, he was partner at Keating & Klein, PC, and Senior Executive Vice President at Complete Management Inc. He is also a former Judge of the New York State Court of Claims, Administrative Judge of the Criminal Courts and Supreme Court in Kings County, Criminal Justice Coordinator for the City of New York under Mayor Koch, and Chief Assistant District Attorney in Kings County. Keating received an LLB from Duke University and an AB from Georgetown University.
