Pace Law School To Offer New Joint Degree Program
With New York Medical College
WHITE PLAINS, July 14, 2003 — This fall Pace Law School
will offer joint degree programs with New York Medical College
School of Public Health. The combined
degree program with New York Medical College will enable candidates to
earn a Juris Doctor/ Masters in Public Health degree (J.D./ M.P.H.) in
as little as four years of study.
The joint degree program with New York Medical College will be open
to newly admitted students and those currently enrolled who are less
than halfway through their studies. Among the suggested public health
courses for law students are Public Health Risk Assessment, Overview
of Managed Health Care, Long-Term Care Delivery Systems, and Health
Economics. Law courses for students of public health may include Food
and Drug Law, Health Care for the Disabled and Disadvantaged,
Introduction to Health Law I and II, and a course on malpractice and
professional discipline.
"Our joint program New York Medical
College reflect the increasing sophistication of our entering
students, and their (and our) recognition that limiting one's
education to traditional disciplinary categories may not expose
students to the knowledge necessary to achieve success.
Inter-disciplinarity has become a touchstone of many graduate and
post-graduate programs," said David Cohen, Dean of Pace Law
School. "Joint programs recognize the operational
efficiencies associated with developing avenues for our students to
access existing outstanding programs and curricular opportunities in
colleges and universities in our region. In addition, we are finding
that a significant percentage of entering students are seeking to
obtain more than the regular JD degree. These
multi-university joint degree programs recognize the innovative and
distinctive curricular initiatives that characterize Pace Law
School."
