Host Reenactment of Brown v. Board of Education
White Plains, NY, March 10, 2004 - In
recognition of the 50th anniversary of 1954 landmark
Supreme Court decision in Brown v. Board of Education, the
Association of Black Lawyers of Westchester County and Pace Law School
will host an all day program featuring a reenactment of the oral
arguments before the U.S. Supreme Court by prominent local attorneys
along with a students’ presentation focusing on today’s challenges
in public school education.
The three-part program will consist of (1) an introductory phase
reviewing the historical context and the events occurring before and
after the Brown case; (2) a reenactment of the oral arguments made
before the Supreme Court; and (3) a presentation by area high school
and college students on the impact of the Brown decision.
The reenactment court will consist of an eight-member panel of
federal, state, and local judges. The local high schools participating
in the program are Gorton, Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, Peekskill, and
Woodlands. In addition, students from Purchase College, State
University of New York will participate in the presentation.
The program will be held on Wednesday, April 21, 2004, from 9:30
a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the Pace Law School, Moot Court Room, 78 North
Broadway, White Plains, New York. The event is free to attend and open
to the media.

The program is cosponsored and supported by Office of Court
Administration, Ninth Judicial District, Purchase College, State
University of New York, and underwritten by Fidelity National Title
Insurance Company.
The Association of Black Lawyers of Westchester
County was formed on 1973. The organization’s objectives include
improving the integrity and standards of professionalism in the legal
community; improving public confidence in the judicial system and the
administration of justice; promoting and encouraging independence,
diversity and inclusion in the judiciary and in the court system; and
upholding the promise of equality, fairness, and justice for all the
under law regardless of race, color, sex, creed, or national origin.
The organization’s membership consists of attorneys residing or
working in Westchester County and New York City, judges, public
officials, academia, and law students. The organization cherishes the
contributions and struggles by African-American lawyers for equality
in America and their dismantling of racial segregation in education 50
years ago in Brown v. Board of Education.
Founded in 1976, Pace Law School is a New York Law School with a
