Energy Project
A project of the Pace Center for
Environmental Legal Studies
The Energy Project is an integral part of Pace Law School
’s top-ranked environmental law program. The Project is counted
among the major public interest leaders of energy conservation and
renewable energy advocacy and is among a small group who regularly
meet to advise on the energy issue agenda for environmental NGOs
nationally.
The Pace Energy Project operates out of the research arm of the
law school ’s environmental program, the Center for
Environmental Legal Studies. The Center is co chaired by Dean
Emeritus Professor Richard Ottinger and Kerlin Professor Nicholas
Robinson. The Energy Project was founded in 1987 by Dean Ottinger
who is its Faculty supervisor. It is now directed by Adjunct
Professor Fred Zalcman.
The project works at the nexus of environmental law, energy law
and economic policy. We use research, education and advocacy to
promote sustainable energy as a means of reducing the global
burden of pollution from electrical energy production. We serve
the national and international environmental community, using
restructured electricity markets in the Northeast as our
laboratory for policy innovation. Richard

"The Energy Project has been a
leader in promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy
resources throughout the world. It has been successful in
getting many regulatory innovations adopted in New York, New
Jersey and Pennsylvania, often replicated elsewhere."
