Our Mission:

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, Asexual and Ally (LGBTQA) Social Justice Center exists to create campus environments that are inclusive and supportive of student, staff, and faculty diversity in the areas of sexuality and gender identity and expression. The office promotes identity expression, self determination and exploration on all levels for all members of Pace University through advocacy, education, activism, programming and a commitment to social justice.

Functions of the Center:

  • Serve as a clear and visible sign of university-sanctioned support for the LGBTQ and ally community. 
  • Create a welcoming environment for all people interested in developing their understanding of LGBTQ and ally issues.
  • Advocacy, activism and community building with a focus on diversity, multicultural issues and social justice
  • Education and outreach on the isolating impact of gender and sexuality norming.
  • Help students, staff and faculty to build conscientious communities of care, inclusion, support, and trust.
  • Recognize and explore the differences in ability, age, ethnicity, gender, health, language, national origin, race, religion, and socioeconomic among the LGBTQ and ally student, staff and faculty population.
  • Celebrate how differences in the LGBTQ and ally student staff and faculty population can enrich campus and local communities.
  • Provide direct service to LGBTQ students, staff, faculty and their allies in the forms of advisement, advocacy, career networking, referral services, education and training, event sponsorship and co-sponsorship, leadership development, and peer mentorship programs.

Volunteer and Internship Opportunities: 

The Center was built through the volunteer efforts of the Pace Community. Students, staff, faculty and alumni dedicated their time to creating this space and advocating for staff and programatic funds. This Center Functions on the principle of Social Justice and a shared interest in Community Wellness and Health.  Students are welcome to inquire about volunteer and internship opportunities with the Center. LGBTQA CENTER DISCUSSION SERIES:

T*-TIME

Join J-Mase III, the rowdiest trans queer poet around, for a discussion series for trans* and gender nonconforming folks. Trans* encompasses the many diverse identities that exist under and outside of the transgender umbrella. This includes but is not limited to transgender, genderqueer, agender, genderless, genderf*ck, third gender, two spirit, bigender, non gendered and those who are questioning their gender identity. COMING OUT GROUP

Are you thinking of coming out? Questioning? Always coming out? Wondering if you should come out? Are you dating someone who is not out? QUEER PEOPLE OF COLOR-COLLECTIVE ("QPOC-C")

Join the LGBTQA & Social Justice Center and the Office of Multicultural Affairs for a series of facilitated conversations that celebrate, empower and create space for queer people of color to share stories, experiences and create community. The QPOC-C will instigate dialogue around important topics that impact QPOC identity development, academic and professional life and relationships. Conversations will be facilitated by Dr. Denise B. Santiago and Dr. Christopher Godfrey.

THE GAY & QUEER MALE EXPERIENCE

Join staff member Jonathan Hooker and Professor Jason Whitesel for a series of conversations about issues and realities experienced by bisexual, pansexual and queer men. Topics will include body image, health, dating, sex, drugs and NYC.
