Almost instantaneously, reports appear in various media: radio, television, Internet news services, etc.

This initial information will often be very sketchy.

Often in a news reporting style, this information will attempt to establish who, when, and where something happened, although why may not be available.
Examples:

The Supreme Court Ruling on Affirmative Action at the University of Michigan (June 2003)
The Internet archive's wayback machine allows you to view the web as it was and show you examples of some of this sketchy, initial information.

Google News provides access to over 4,000 Internet news sources with coverage of news from around the world.
