DESCRIPTION  (return to the top)
This database contains company profiles, company brand information, rankings, investment reports, company histories, chronologies, and articles from periodicals. Search this database to find detailed company and industry news and information.

Accessing the Database (return to the top)
1. Go to the Pace University Library web page at http://library.pace.edu.
2. Click on Articles via Databases.
3. From the Complete Database Listing pull-down menu choose Business and Company Resource Center. (This will bring you to a description of the database.)
4. Click on the name Business and Company Resource Center or Connect to Database.
5. Click on the Proceed button on the INFOTRAC title page.
6. Click on the underlined Business and Company Resource Center link.

Basic Searching (return to the top)
There are four main search options once you enter the database:

1. Company: Select Company to search for information about a specific Company. This feature allows you to search by company name or ticker symbol; SIC or NAICS Industry Code (choose browse to view a complete list of codes); Brand Name or type; and Location (City and State/Country). You may also search by a combination of these fields.

2. Industry: Select Industry when searching for all the information regarding companies that fit into a particular Industry sector. This section is searchable by SIC or NAICS code, as well as by keyword in an SIC or NAICS code description.

3. Articles: Select Articles when searching for periodical (magazine, newspaper, and journal) articles written on a certain subject. This feature allows you to search by Subject, Keyword, or "Text in Article" and then limit your search to articles appearing in a specific journal, between specific dates, or those appearing only in Peer-reviewed journals, Newspapers & newswires, or Magazines & journals. You may also limit your search to only include full-text articles, rather then both full text articles and citations to articles.

4. A quick searching option is also available with limiting options to article, company, or industry information.

Advanced Searching (return to the top)
The advanced search option allows you to limit your search by combining several different criteria:
Content Area
Choose the type of information to search for: News/Magazines; Company Profiles/ Products; Histories; Investment Reports; Financials; Rankings; Industry overviews.

Field Searching
Search for words in a combination of specific fields, including: a Company name, Keyword (subjects), words in the Full Text, or the title of a Source (publication)

Limiting
You may limit your search to articles in a specific journal, articles published in a specific range of dates, or only articles in specific types of periodicals.
Limit the current search (optional): Limit by Journal Name; Limit to: full text articles, peer-reviewed, newspapers & newswires, magazines & journals; limit by date of publication

Managing Results (return to the top)

Searching for a Company
When you search for a company by word, you will get a list of companies that contain that word. The companies with the highest revenue will be listed first - that is often the one for which you are searching.

Using the Tabs
After you select a company, the information about the company is organized by tabs at the top of the screen. Click on the appropriate tab to retrieve the information for which you are searching.

Marking (return to the top)
Marking records allows you to compile a list of all your relevant documents in one place. Simply click in the blank box to the left of the document to mark it. This will place a checkmark in the box. Click on Update Mark List after marking documents in a search result list. When you are done searching and ready to print or email the documents, click on View Mark List to view a list of all of your marked documents.

Printing (return to the top)
When printing documents simply click on the Print button in the top left corner to format the document for printing. Then choose print from your browser menu.
If printing from a marked list, click on Format Company Profiles for printing or Format News/Magazines for printing. Then select print from your browser menu.

Emailing (return to the top)
Click on Email in the top left corner of the screen to email documents to yourself.

Choose Search Tips from the top right hand corner of the screen for more hints on how to search this database.

Search History

Click on Search History to see a list of all the searches you have performed. Then highlight the search results you would like to see again and click on View.
