CINAHL provides access to citations from virtually all English language nursing journals, publications from the American Nurses' Association and the National League for Nursing, and primary journals from thirteen allied health disciplines. More than 800 serial publications are regularly reviewed and included in CINAHL. Selected nursing and allied health-related books are also included. CINAHL contains records from 1982 to the present, with abstracts for more than 215 journal titles, and full text for more than 250 journals

ADVANCED SEARCHING (This is the default search technique)

Advanced Searching allows you to search for words in specific database fields and also to utilize a variety of tools to limit your search.

The Fielded Search feature allows you to restrict your search to certain fields in the database, and to combine several search terms for more precise results.  Type your search term(s) in the appropriate text box(es), and select a field to search from the adjacent pull-down menu. You can search terms only in the field of the Abstract, Article title, Author, Author Affiliation, Editors, Subject, Volume, Journal Name, and Publication Date or Year. You can also search within the Subject Headings of the works for specific words.

An Advanced Search also offers a variety of techniques for limiting and expanding your search results.  CINAHL allows you to limit your search to include only articles that have Full Text or an Abstract available; articles from a particular Publication Year; articles from a particular Publication Type; articles in a particular Language; and articles within a specific Journal or by a specific Author. If you are looking for a discussion of a specific type of person, you can also limit to Gender and Age of the persons discussed. Finally, you can also limit to a specific type of care of area of medical practice within the Special Interest area at the bottom of the search screen.

NOTE: One of the Publication Type options in the pull down menu is a Systematic Review.
