DESCRIPTION
The Global
Market Information Database (GMID) provides key business intelligence
on countries, companies, market and consumers. It is an integrated
online information system covering over 350 markets and 207 countries.

SEARCHING
Accessing
the Database
- Go to the Pace University
Library home page at: http://library.pace.edu
- Click on Articles
via Databases.
- From the Complete
Database Listing
pull-down menu,
click on Global Market Information Database (GMID).
This will bring you to a page of information about this database.
- From the description
page, click on the database name, Global Market Information
Database (GMID) or Connect to Database.
There are two basic
types of searches: A keyowrd search or a menu-driven search by
geography and category. I recommend searching by geography and
category.

Searching
by Geography and Category
There are two tabs on the screen: Geography and Category. The
database will automatically open to the geography tab.

- Click on The World,
a region, or click on the plus sign beside a region and then
click on a country. There are also options for EU, NAFTA, and
other organizations of countries at the top.
**NOTE (Click once on a category to deselect it.)
- Once you have made
your geographic selection, click on the category tab and make
a selection from the list. Use the plus signs to see more specific
choices within each category.
- Click on Run Search
when you are finished.
- The following icons
indicate which type of data is available for a selection:
Statistics: Consolidates information on consumer lifestyles,
retailing, countries, consumer market sizes and forecasts
Market
reports: Euromonitor's in-depth market analysis reports, Major
Market Profiles and journal articles covering consumer, industrial
and service sectors. Also accessible are reports focusing on consumer
lifestyles and the retailing industry.
Companies and
shares: Profiles for leading FMCG (Fast moving consumer goods)
companies along with financial, market share, and brand information.
Sources:
Over 30,000 sources of market information around the world with
descriptions and full contact details.

Keyword
Searching
Text Search
1. Begin by clicking on keyword search on the right side of the
menu at the top of the screen.
- You may want to combine two or more concepts using Boolean operators.
For example, entering "beer and italy" will find
information with both the terms beer and Italy; entering "(beer
or wine) and italy" will find information with
the either of the terms beer or wine, and Italy.
- Use the wildcard character (*) to find alternate forms
of words (e.g. alumin*).
2. Click on Go to get search results.

VIEWING RESULTS
Search
results are displayed with a total number of hits and then organized
by the type of results, which correspond to the icons described
above, representing: Statistics, Market reports,
Market shares and Performance Indicators, Company Profiles,
and Information Sources.
You may choose to load
all statistical data at once or choose individual statistical
results to manipulate the data. When viewing Statistical data,
use the drop-down menus on the left that allow you to change the
date you are viewing by time, currency (converts
local currency to euro, JPY, or US$), current/constant
(allows you to view data at constant prices to take out the effect
of inflation), and growth.

You may also use the
following icons:
Group data by type: (The focus of the data, whether it
can be viewed by country or category) can be changed easily by
selecting this icon)
View household trends: (Divide every cell by the # of households
in the country)
View per capita trends: (Divide every cell in the spreadsheet
by the population of the country)
Also use the drop down
menus at the left to view related information in the database,
including country profiles, socio-economic data,
market reports, company profiles, etc.

PRINTING
and SAVING
Search
results are displayed with a total number of hits and then organized
by the type of results, which correspond to the icons described
above.
PDF: Click here to create a PDF of your results. You must
have Adobe Acrobat installed to perform this function. If you
do not have Adobe Acrobat, go to http://www.adobe.com/ to download
it for free.
Printer Friendly Format: Click here to display a printer friendly
version of your results. Select 'File' and 'Print' to print what
you see on your screen.
Save search: Click here to save your search on the system
for future use. (Click on Saved Searches from the main
menu to retrieve your search.)
View report: Click here to view the full report.
Excel: Click here to download a spreadsheet into Excel.
Word: Click here to save your results as a Microsoft word
document.
