      1. TIP: to search for articles about a person, search them last name first, for example: "parks rosa" - with NO COMMA.
      2. TIP: click on the small book icon to browse the list of official Subjects and add to your search
    3. Press the Search button to run your search.

  • Limiting by Time Period:
    • To search a particular time period you define a search by hundreds (centuries) and decades. Enter one or more round-number dates, each followed by either H (for hundreds [centuries]) or D (for decades).
    • EXAMPLE: 1800H OR 1900H
      RESULTS:
Entries dealing with the eighteen or nineteen hundreds (1800-1999).
    • EXAMPLE: 1820D 1830D 1840D
      RESULTS:
Entries dealing with the 1820's, 1830's, and 1840's (1820-1849). It assumes you want articles in which all three are discussed or covered. For entries dealing with the 1820's, 1830's, or 1840's, use the OR operator between each search term.

  • TIPS:
  • You may connect search terms in a field using AND or OR. Connecting terms with AND tells the system both words must appear in the search field. Connecting terms with OR tells the system either of the terms may appear.
  •
  •  Use wildcards (* AND ?) to replace letters.
