Citing Sources

It is important to document ALL sources used in preparing assigned projects and research papers. The bibliography at the end of your work includes all source materials cited in your footnotes, as well as works which were useful in providing background information, even if you did not quote or paraphrase from them in your paper.

Information found on an electronic database or on the World Wide Web is cited differently than from a print resource.  If you obtained a journal article in full text format from a database, it is cited differently than if you read the article in the original format, that is, print format.  Access Citing Resources for assistance in citing electronic and print resources.

Here are some print sources you may wish to consult at your local library, or a university near you:

  • Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association

  • MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers

  • The Chicago Manual of Style

  • A Manual for Writers of Term Papers, Theses, and Dissertations
