About.com: (http://www.about.com) “Network of sites led by expert guides”.  Each guide consists of Netlinks, articles, original content, Guide Bio, related topics, forums, chats, newsletters, and related shopping sites. 

AltaVista: (http://altavista.com) one of the largest search engines in terms of pages indexed. Wide range of power searching commands, including searching just audio, video or sound. Becoming more of a portal than a search engine. “Ask AltaVista” option using natural language. 

Google: (http://www.google.com) This is a great search engine! Results are quick and extremely  relevant.  Searches PDF documents!! (Also known as the invisible web)

HotBot: (http://hotbot.lycos.com)  Performs fast, accurate searches that deliver relevance ranked results. Can limit to language, images, video or MP3. Subject directory as well. Part of the Lycos network. 

MetaCrawler: (http://www.metacrawler.com) This is a mega search engine that searches 10 other search engines in one convenient location. 

Turbo10.com: (http://www.turbo10.com) The Turbo10 Search Engine enables you to Search Deeper and Browse Faster. To learn more about our unique search engine technology please click on one of the headings below.

Findlaw: (http://www.findlaw.com). The “yahoo” for legal information. Has a keyword search option or you can use the subject categories. 

MedHunt - WorldWide Medical Search: (http://www.hon.ch/cgi-bin/find?1) Returns ranked results from various countries and health topics. 

NewsTrawler: (http://www.newstrawler.com/nt/nt_home.html) A Search Engine for news on the Internet. Search for articles from online news,  magazine and journal sources from the world. 

NursingWebSearch: ( http://www.nursingwebsearch.com/) From Nursing Spectrum- searches nursing websites for job related information. 

WebDirectory (Environmental Info): (http://www.webdirectory.com/)This already has many different categories of environmental information but has search capabilities.

  -- Locate Multimedia Resources (Sound/Images)-- 

AlltheWeb: (http://www.alltheweb.com) AlltheWeb is is the public search engine and technology showcase for Fast Search & Transfer, ASA (FAST). Here customers, partners, analysts, and the public can access some of the latest search technologies available on the Internet today. At AlltheWeb the scalability, relevance, and ease of use of our search offerings are on display and available for testing. 

Google's Image Search (http://images.google.com ) Although still in the Beta version, it has more than 150 million images indexed and available for  viewing. To use image search, go to the advanced search page and enter a query in the image search box, then click on the "Search" button. You'll see up to 20 thumbnail images on the results page. Just click the thumbnail to see a larger version of the image, as well as the web page on which the image is located. 

Lycos Image Gallery + Sounds Search Engine: (http://multimedia.lycos.com/)  "Browse or search through more than 80,000 free images, current pictures and vintage illustrations." Also provides a search engine for locating pictures, movies, streaming audio and video, and sounds.

Liszt Directory of E-Mail Discussion Groups:  ( http://www.liszt.com/ )Browse or search discussion groups by topic 

Tile.net (http://tile.net/news/) "The complete reference to Usenet newsgroups" that can be searched or browsed.  The Newsgroups are also indexed on this website.

Any Who Business Search:  (http://www.anywho.com/bgq.html)  Use this site to find brief  information such as address, toll free numbers, and business category. Maps and directions are included. 

Big Yellow: (http://www.bigyellow.com/)  Similar to Any Who Business, this site also supplies addresses, phone numbers, maps, and  directions for the companies which it locates. 

Excite: (http://www.excite.com)  Type the name of a public company in the search box to retrieve stock information, news articles, analyst ratings and web results. 

Europages: (http://www.europages.com/)  500,000 companies in 30 European countries are covered. Search by company name, product, or service category.  Websites are included if available. 

Individual.Com:  (http://www.individual.com/search.shtml/)  Search by company name or ticker symbol to retrieve stock quotes and charts, profiles, SEC filings, competitors’ news and much more. 

Switchboard.Com:  (http://www.switchboard.com)  Search by company name, address, business category or a combination of these items. The search yields address, phone number, map, directions, and nearby businesses. 

Thomas Register: (http://www.thomasregister.com)  Free online registration is required to use this site which covers American and Canadian manufacturers of industrial products and services. Search by brand name, company name, product, or service. Some companies have links to their product catalogs and websites. 

Web 100:  (http://www.metamoney.com/w100/)   The 100 largest companies in the U.S. and the 100 largest globally are covered.  Links are provided to the company’s home page as well as to Hoovers, stock quotes, Zacks income profile, company news, and other related information.  The U.S. companies are also arranged by industry. 

World Wide Yellow Pages:  (http://www.yellow.com/)  An international yellow page directory which can be searched by company name or business category.

Industry Link:  (http://www.industrylink.com/) Covering Canadian and U.S. industries, this site 
maintains industry related links to trade associations, company web sites, and professional organizations. Search by key word, company name, or industry category. 

Industry Research Desk: (http://www.virtualpet.com/industry/mfg/mfg.htm)  Provides links to industry home pages. A separate listing follows for non U.S. industry sites.

Tip: When searching for a person in a particular city spell out city abbreviations, i.e. Saint Paul for St. Paul, Mount Airy for Mt. Airy. 

Infospace.com:  (http://www.infospace.com/info/index_ppl.htm) This search engine allows you to search not only for e-mail, phone number, and address, by an individual’s name, but a reverse lookup feature allows you to search a phone number and find out to whom it belongs.  Results of name searches are listed alphabetically by city, rather than by name. 

Switchboard.com:  (http://www.switchboard.com/bin/cgiqa.dll) Comprehensive phone and address results can be obtained at this site, if you search by last name alone.  Results are alphabetical by name.  E-mail search feature is not as effective. 

Telephone Directories on the Web: (http://www.infobel.com/teldir/default.asp) Provides links to phone directories in countries around the world. 

WhoWhere:  (http://www.whowhere.lycos.com/) This people finder searches a directory of registered users by name, in basic search mode, or place, school, or various keywords in the registrant’s profile in advanced mode. 

Yahoo People Search:  (http://people.yahoo.com/) Claiming to be the “web’s largest e-mail directory,” it to list only those people who register at the site.  It does have a very easy to use interface and allows you to look up phone number and address in addition to e-mail.

Mapquest : (http://mapquest.com/) Online maps, driving directions, local city guides and travel guides. 

Yahoo Maps: (http://maps.yahoo.com/py/maps.py) Enter a street address, intersection or airport code and get a map. Also maps driving directions from location to location. 

Zip Code Look-Up: (http://www.usps.gov/ncsc/lookups/lookups.htm) From the U.S. Postal Service. Search by city/state or by zip code.

Winfiles: (http://www.winfiles.com) Has software for Windows.  Also has hardware, tips, and fixes for bugs.
