Remote Access Instructions

If you are a Pace Alumni, use the [ Alumni Database Access ] page

INSTRUCTIONS

• Dial into Pace to get your Internet access
  • A Pace dialup account can be obtained by contacting DoIT.
  • If you are using a Pace dialup account (or a Pace VPN account) you will be connected to restricted resources such as library databases automatically. 

    
    OR

• Use a private Internet Service Provider in combination with the Library's Remote Access System.

  1. Browser Cookies must be enabled on your web browser. This is a default setting, if you have not changed this, you should be all set.
  2. Go to the Pace University Library Homepage at http://www.pace.edu/library
  3. Click on Databases,
  4. Click on the name of the database that you are interested in and you will reach the Remote Access login page.
     • Select either Faculty/Staff or Student
     • Enter your Pace University Email username (for example, AB12345N, without the @pace.edu) and password
     • If you do not know your Pace University Email username, check the Faculty/Staff White Pages or the Student Email Lookup.
     • Click the Login button.
     • After typing in your user name and password, you may encounter a Security Alert pop up – this is normal and by accepting, you will be passed to database you selected.
        

KNOWN ISSUES AND ANSWERS TO SOME PROBLEMS
 

• Web Browsers Successfully Tested & Supported: Netscape 4.7, Netscape 7.x, Opera 7.x, Internet Explorer 5/6, Mozilla Firefox, AOL 9.0.  Most databases require up to date browsers.
   
• Bookmarks/Favorites/Shortcuts directly set to Database web sites will NOT function.  You must be authenticated via the Pace Library Website for each session.
   
•  If you have forgotten or need your email password reset, you must deal with Department of Information Technology via their Online Help Desk.  You can have them reset your email password at   HTTP://doithelpdesk.pace.edu
   
• If you are a Pace Law School Student, you will need to scroll down to see the Law School Access form, then enter your last name, and the last seven digits of your Pace University Library barcode.

SAMPLE WALKTHROUGH TO LIBRARY REMOTE DATABASES

1.       Go to http://www.pace.edu/library in a web browser 

2.       Choose “Articles via Databases” which is under “Find Resources” (CLICK FOR SCREENSHOT)

3.       Select “ABI-Inform[Ftxt]” from the selection and click “Go” button. (CLICK FOR SCREENSHOT)

4.       A page describing the database ABI-INFORM should load. To continue click –“CONNECT TO DATABASE”

5.       Here is where you should see a page “Remote Authentication for Pace Library Databases and Resources”. There should be a box for logon, STUDENT/FACULTY ACCESS.  Select Student,  type in “EQ1353B” (example)  as it is your @PACE email username.  Your password should be the password you use for stmail.pace.edu or fsmail.pace.edu email.  Click login.   (CLICK FOR SCREENSHOT)

6.       A few moments will pass; some systems are faster then others.  In Internet Explorer, You should receive a small “Security Alert” saying the following:  “You are about to be redirected to a connection that is not secure.”  This is absolutely normal, and press yes.  This does not happen in all browsers. a.      If the process takes a really long time and then sends you to a page  with a message that says “We’re Sorry… the user name/barcode or password is incorrect.”

It is possible you have typed you user credentials incorrectly or you have forgotten your password.  If you are able to logon to STMAIL.PACE.EDU or FSMAIL.PACE.EDU with the user/password, then the Library Remote Databases will work.  If you have forgotten or need your password reset, you must deal with Department of Information Technology via their Online Help Desk.  You can have them reset your email password at   HTTP://doithelpdesk.pace.edu

7.     You should arrive at the ABI-INFORM database page, if the user/password goes in without issue.
