Education: Professor Shortridge-Baggett holds the following degrees: BS (Nursing) from Berea College, Berea, KY, EdD & MEd (both Curriculum & Instruction) from Teachers College, Columbia University, New York, NY; The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Nurse Faculty Fellowship in Primary Care Research, Practice, and Education, University of Colorado, Denver, CO; and Certificates in Family Therapy from the Center for Family Learning, New Rochelle, NY.

Areas of Expertise: These include international activities, nursing research, grant writing and management, diabetes self-management, and instrument development. Dr. Shortridge-Baggett is currently teaching nursing research at the graduate and undergraduate levels in both the Baccalaureate of Science (RN4) Program and the Combined Degree Program. She also teaches several independent studies with students as well as serves a research supervisor at three international universities. She also teaches in the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program.

Current Area of Research: The main focus of Dr. Shortridge-Baggett’s research is in the development and testing of scales to measure self-efficacy and interventions to enhance self-efficacy in people for both health promotion and chronic illness, specifically diabetes mellitus.

Professional Experience: Dr. Shortridge-Baggett is currently Professor at Pace University and Visiting Professor at the University of Antwerp (Belgium), and Queensland University of Technology (Australia). She joined LSN, Pace University in 1982 to develop and direct the Center for Nursing Research, Clinical Practice and International Affairs. She began her career as a staff nurse in 1968 at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, New York, NY. Professor Shortridge-Baggett has held faculty positions since 1970, beginning at Columbia University and University of California at San Francisco, and now at Pace University. She has taught and served as a consultant on different projects at University of Colorado, California State University, and Columbia University.
