Education: Professor Zavala is completing her Doctor of Nursing Science degree at CUNY Graduate Center.  She received the following degrees/certificates: Masters of Science in Adult Health, Certificate of Research Coordinator, Bachelors of Science Nursing, and Bachelors of Art Economics. 

Areas of Expertise: Health Disparities, Adult Health and Cardiac Research
 
Current Area of Research: Dissertation: Lived-Experience of Puerto Rican single Mothers Raising Their Children in a Violent Community
 
Professional Experience: Professor Zavala is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Pace University. She is currently teaching a Leadership and Management course in the Combined Degree Program and Fundamentals of Nursing Practice in the undergraduate program. She previously taught Fundamentals of Nursing and Critical Thinking and Decision-Making courses at Lehman College Department of Nursing. She started her nursing career in 1992 at Montefiore Medical Center’s medical-surgical unit and went on to become a cardiac research nurse at Weiler Hospital.
