Education: Professor Sonenberg holds the following degrees: DNSc from Columbia University, New York, NY; MS (Nursing) from Georgetown University, Washington, D.C.; BS (Nursing) Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY; BA (Biology/Neurobiology and Behavior) from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY.          

 Areas of Expertise: Nurse-Midwifery and Women’s Health Advanced Nursing Practice
                                                                                                             
Current Area of Research: Health policy related to the regulation of advanced nursing practice; global regulation and utilization of advanced practice nurses for the expansion of access to care to vulnerable populations.
 
Professional Experience: Professor Sonenberg joined the Lienhard School of Nursing, Pace University in 2008 as an Assistant Professor and is currently teaching Essentials of Professional Nursing, Fundamentals of Nursing Practice, Professional and Therapeutic Communication, Women’s Health, Maternal, and Newborn Nursing, and the Prenatal Care module in the Graduate FNP Program.
                        
From 1999 to 2008 she was a clinical instructor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Columbia University, School of Physicians and Surgeons, with a clinical position practicing full-scope nurse-midwifery in the MIC-Columbia Women’s Health Services. Professor Sonenberg also held the position of Adjunct Faculty in the Graduate School of Nursing, Columbia University. She was a Nurse-Midwife at the Midwifery Group of the Hudson Valley in Cold Spring, NY; The Family Birth Midwifery Group in Peekskill, NY; and at St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Hospital Center Nurse-Midwifery Service in New York, NY. Dr. Sonenberg began her nursing career as a staff nurse in a high-risk antepartum unit at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, MD.
