“I learned so many things through this international field study course. I was in Chennai, Pondicherry, and Thanjavur, learning and discussing real empirical microfinance. There are many MFIs. We visited several, but there are hundreds more out there and each one has a different way to approach to borrowers. Microfinance is a really interesting subject and I will keep studying this subject even after I finish taking this course.”

“Visiting China would have never been possible without the Figueroa Scholarship, and this trip was one of the most memorable experiences I have ever had. I can still remember how nervous I was boarding the 17-hour plan ride not knowing one individual in the class and flying home 10 days later with over 20 newfound friendships. It is still surreal to me that I was able to walk the Great Wall and visit the Forbidden City - things you usually only see in textbooks. We also met with extremely intelligent business professionals from companies such as Mastercard, Hyundai and Callisto. I will carry the memories and relationships I built in China for the rest of my life.”

Students had the opportunity to meet with political and business leaders to learn more about the business culture in Finland and Russia. Business visits included Sitra, Citibank, The American Chamber of Commerce, Corning, Gamma Manufacturing Company, and The New Economic School. Several key cultural visits such as the Hermitage were also included.
