International Field Study to China
Spring 2012
The
International Accounting Field Study traveled to China from May 21
to May 31, 2012. Led by
Dr. Charles Tang and
Dr. Susanne O'Callaghan, the group visited
Beijing, Xi'an, and Shanghai, which are the most-traveled destinations in China. This particular trip focused on China's accounting and business environment,
and provided students with a unique opportunity to learn while reflecting on their own experiences as they visited. Business visits included KPMG-China,
Lenovo, PricewaterhouseCoopers, China-Japan International Ferry Company, and various security analysis and investment firms, among others. The group also
visited world famous cultural sites such as the Great Wall in Beijing and the Terracotta Warriors in Xi'an. One of the highlights of the trip was the
cultural and educational exchange with students and faculty at Northwestern Polytechnical University in Xi'an.
Nine Lubin students were each awarded $1,500 Figueroa
Family Scholarships, for a total of $13,500 in funds awarded.
“Traveling all over Beijing, Xi'an and
Shanghai in 10 days was unbelievable. This rewarding experience has taught me a lot about the Chinese culture and has helped me view the world from another
standpoint. This trip to China was beyond amazing and definitely worth taking.” |

“China was truly the experience of a lifetime.
Being half way around the world, I was able to immerse myself in a culture so incredibly different than my own. The food, architecture, customs, flavors and
sounds of each city carried with them a piece of China's rich history.” |

“The trip to KPMG in Shanghai stands out as
the best business experience because we were fortunate enough to sit down with an American partner who put forth KPMG in China in a manner we could
understand and relate to. He really shared his knowledge on how business, particularly accounting, is practiced differently in China versus the
US.” |
- Yogesh Dhanram, BBA/MBA '12

“
Our trip was both professionally informative and culturally enlightening; our tour guides provided many historical facts of their respective hometowns
before, during, and after visiting the sites.” |

“I learned a great deal about the culture of
this country through the visits to the three very diverse cities and also by visiting the companies in various industries apart from accounting. The
highlights of the trip that I enjoyed were the Great Wall and the acrobatic show in Beijing, the Terracotta Warriors in Xi'an and the Huangpu River cruise in
Shanghai.” |
