Annual Lubin Luncheon Raises Over $765,000! The 14th Annual Lubin Alumni Achievement Award Luncheon honoring Marie J. Toulantis, BBA '81, CEO, Barnes&Noble.com, was held on December 1 at One Chase Plaza in downtown Manhattan. Over $765,000 was raised, nearly double the revenue from the previous year's event, which was itself a record. Proceeds provide scholarships to outstanding undergraduate and graduate students with financial need. Ten Lubin students were awarded scholarships at the Luncheon. >> more info |
| EIR Centennial Series a Smash Success The Executives in Residence (EIR) Centennial Series, a series of panel discussions among former participants of the nearly 20-year-old program, was held during the months of October and November 2006. Capacity crowds of students, faculty, alumni, and guests attended the four-event series, which was held on the downtown New York campus and also in Pleasantville. Keith Reinhard, chairman emeritus, DDB Worldwide; Marie Toulantis, BBA '81, CEO, Barnes&Noble.com; and Richard Zannino, MBA '84, CEO, Dow Jones, were among the participants. >> more info |

IASB Vice Chairman to Keynote Accounting Conference Tom Jones, vice chairman of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB), will be the keynote speaker at Lubin's First Annual Accounting Conference, sponsored by the Center for Financial Reporting in Global Markets. The Conference will be held in midtown Manhattan on April 26, 2007. The theme of the Conference is "Convergence in Global Financial Reporting and Corporate Governance: Charting a Course for the Future." Stay tuned for further details in the next eLubin. |
| Pace Mourns Faculty Legend Ivan Fox, BBA '54 Beloved alumnus and faculty member Ivan Fox, a colorful and ubiquitous presence at Lubin and Pace for over 48 years, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, after a sudden illness. Teacher to thousands of Pace students over his long tenure, Fox was a highly respected legal studies educator and authority on business law, who engaged students in class and as a performer and MC at numerous campus events. He established the Ivan Fox Endowed Professorship at Pace. Seminal Lubin Leader Richard M. Matthews Dies at 96 Professor Richard Matthews, who died on Monday, November 20, in Ojai, California, was a seminal educator at Lubin for more than 40 years. Joining the faculty in 1947, he served as chair of the accounting department from 1950-1969, as second dean of the Lubin School of Business Administration from 1969 to 1977, and as professor emeritus of accounting until 1989. As dean of Lubin, Matthews provided leadership that shaped the future of business education at Pace. His legacy to Lubin is monumental. During his long and rich tenure Matthews taught thousands of business students and inspired generations of faculty. To make a contribution to the Richard M. | On Tuesday, November 14, Bethany McLean, senior writer at Fortune, addressed a packed audience of Pace University students, faculty, and administrators on "The Enron Case: What It Means for Corporate Ethics and Governance." Her talk detailed Enron's rise to glory and its dismal fall due to ethical transgressions that caused irreparable damage to the livelihoods and character of those intimately associated with it. It was Ms. McLean in early 2001 who wrote a story questioning how the company made its money. Ms. McLean signed copies of her book, coauthored with Peter Elkind, The Smartest Guys in the Room: The Amazing Rise and Scandalous Fall of Enron. >> more info |

| eMBA Program Graduates Sixteen Sixteen managers and professionals from Cycle 6 of Pace's Executive MBA program graduated on Saturday, December 9. Christopher Roker (Al Roker's younger brother) of Capital Health Management Inc. spoke at the ceremony on behalf of the graduating class. A champagne luncheon for over 200 guests followed the ceremony. Lubin Pitcher Throws Home Run William Phelps, MBA '08, placed first in the Third Annual Pace Pitch Contest on November 17, 2006. Phelps' company, Idea Storm Products, LLC, is a new start-up that invents games designed to inspire the imagination. Yamodo™, the company's first product, which Phelps pitched, is an innovative drawing game that is currently available on Barnes&Noble.com and will appear in Discovery Channel Stores beginning March 1, 2007. Women in Management Take Care of Their Own The Lubin Graduate Management Program for Women (GMPW), under the leadership of Sandra Ekberg, BA '58, MBA, '71, established a $100,000 scholarship to benefit a female MBA student and created a new MBA Mentoring Program at their rousing 30th reunion in May 2006. The first GMPW scholarship recipient is Liliana Nunez, BBA/MBA '07, an accounting and international business major. She joins PricewaterhouseCoopers upon graduation. >> more info |
| Accounting Majors Fight "Crimes" with IRS Accounting students from Pace University and Queens College were "IRS Special Agents for a Day," on October 13, 2006. Working with IRS criminal investigators, 26 students learned federal law enforcement techniques such as undercover, surveillance, subpoenas, and search and arrest warrants to enact scenarios investigating financial fraud. The downtown Manhattan Pace campus and the surrounding streets were their stage for this exciting hands-on financial forensics training. >> more info |

Deloitte Executive Keynotes NABA Annual Fall Dinner Pace's chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) hosted its 14th Annual Fall Dinner on Thursday, November 16, 2006. "To Whom Much is Given, Much is Required," served as the theme for the event. The dinner provided an innovative networking experience for students, professionals, faculty, and staff. The keynote address was delivered by the dynamic Kaplan Mobray, US Diversity Recruiting Leader at Deloitte and author of The 10Ks of Personal Branding. |
