| Accounting Conference Is Huge Success The Honorable Paul S. Sarbanes keynoted the Lubin Forum on Contemporary Accounting Issues on April 26 in Midtown Manhattan. Over 100 senior industry professionals and media attended the by-invitation-only event. Robert Herz, Chairman, Financial Accounting Standards Board, gave a keynote interview to the New York Times' Floyd Norris, and Tom Jones, Vice Chairman, International Accounting Standards Board, was interviewed by the Wall Street Journal's Alan Murray. Lubin Students Receive Fulbright Awards Raj Shrestha, business management and political science, has been awarded a Fulbright to study "Alleviation of Poverty in Nepal Through Microfinance." Anthony Melendez, marketing, has been awarded a Fulbright to conduct market research on alternative fuel vehicles in Brazil. Emilio Vozzolo, international management/Italian, is a finalist for a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship (ETA) to teach in Italy, and is awaiting confirmation from the host country. Four Dyson students also have been awarded Fulbrights, and two are awaiting decisions on their proposals. >>more info |
| Lubin's Ad Teams Place Second and Fourth at NSAC Pace's New York City and Pleasantville Ad Teams finished in the Top 5 in the American Advertising Federation's National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC). The New York City team came in second and earned the highest presentation score in the past 20 years; the Pleasantville team came in fourth place for their presentation. The New York City team's plans book will now be considered for a "wild card" position to compete alongside all first place teams at the national competition. We wish them much success in being selected to move forward and compete in Louisville, Kentucky, in June. >>more info |

New Deloitte CEO Is EIR at Pace On Monday, April 2, Barry Salzberg, managing partner, Deloitte & Touche USA LLP, visited the Lubin School as an Executive in Residence (EIR). Salzberg spent a day on the Pace downtown New York City campus lecturing to students and engaging the Pace community in a lively discussion about Deloitte, Generation Y, talent, and ethics. It was first announced that day at Pace that Salzberg will be the new CEO of Deloitte effective June 1. >> photos and highlights |
| FEI CEO Honored at Spring Banquet Michael Cangemi, president and CEO of Financial Executives International, keynoted the Spring Banquet, an annual conference spearheaded by several of Pace University's student organizations. Cangemi spoke about continuing Lubin's legacy of success and was honored with the Lubin Legacy Award. The purpose of the Spring Banquet is to provide a forum in which professionals from various business fields can share their experiences and knowledge with students and others in the Pace Community. >> more info |

Budding Entrepreneurs Test Their Business Savvy The Fourth Annual Pace Business Plan Competition took place on Monday, April 30 at Pace's downtown New York City campus. Almost 150 Pace students, alumni, and guests attended the panel discussion with venture capital experts. Sheri Muth was selected by the panelists as the overall winner of the competition, and she received a cash prize plus a private meeting with a venture capitalist for her winning business plan, "Independence Painting." Freeman School of Business at Tulane University, was the guest speaker at the Lubin Leaders and Scholars' Academy of Management Distinguished Scholar Series in March. 3rd Annual Faculty Research Day Lubin faculty heard from peers and experts about recent research methodology developments, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and effective publishing and grant application strategies at the 3rd Annual Faculty Research Day on April 20. | Student Awards and Honors Pace's chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, the national accounting, finance, and information systems organization, placed first in the Corporate Social Response category and second in the Involvement in Professional Organization category in Best Practice competitions at the Beta Alpha Psi Atlantic Coast Regional Meeting in March. The Pace University Marketing Association (PUMA) won three awards at the 29th Annual Marketing Association Collegiate Conference in March in the Outstanding Chapter Planning, Outstanding Professional Development, and Outstanding Membership Activities categories. PUMA also sponsored a discussion on country branding with David Saranga of the Consulate General of Israel in March. |

Filing Taxes Made Easier By Pace Beta Alpha Psi's chapter of Iota Lambda ran another successful year of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program where they offered free tax help to low and moderate income individuals. Volunteers are trained by the IRS and obtain certification from the IRS by passing a basic proficiency exam in preparing income tax returns. This year the volunteers prepared almost 250 e-file returns and over 100 paper returns. This success would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of the students who contributed countless hours to the volunteer effort. >> more info |
| Lubin Student Awarded Scholarship by FWA Marina Slavina, MBA '08, received a scholarship from the prestigious Financial Women's Association (FWA) on April 19 at the downtown New York City campus. The scholarship recognizes a combination of academic merit and demonstrated leadership, and supports the FWA's mission to mentor and prepare the next generation of women professionals. Founded in 1956, FWA is an executive organization of over 1,000 business and financial leaders committed particularly to the development of women in finance. Including awards made in 2006, the FWA has awarded a total of $515,000 in scholarships at the graduate and undergraduate levels to 117 outstanding women pursuing careers in business and finance. >> more info |

Lubin Student Receives AAF's Minority Award (Miao) Jun Kuang, BBA '07, was one of the honorees who received the American Advertising Federation's (AAF) Most Promising Minority Students award. The Most Promising Minority Students Program proactively addresses the advertising industry's urgent diversity hiring needs by connecting recruiters with minority advertising students who demonstrate excellence. About winning the award, Jun stated: "I am honored to receive an award from the American Advertising Federation.
