Tactical Sailing at Accounting Forum At the Fourth Annual Lubin Forum on Contemporary Accounting Issues on April 27, accounting firm leaders, standard-setters, and industry professionals discussed the implications of the United States adopting international financial reporting standards (IFRS). The event featured keynote interviews with Tom Jones, director, Lubin's Center for the Study of International Accounting Standards; Ian Mackintosh, chair, Accounting Standards Board (UK); John B. Veihmeyer, CEO, KPMG LLP and Americas chairman, KPMG International; and James L. Kroeker, chief accountant, United States Securities and Exchange Commission. Save the Date for the Executive Summit On October 29, 2010, Lubin's Marketing Department is sponsoring a major industry-oriented conference, the "2010 Executive Summit: Marketing and Technology - The Next Frontier." The conference is geared toward executives and senior managers responsible for strategic planning, product or service marketing, sales growth, new business or channel development, retailing, advertising, and other marketing communications. This year's conference will feature Ivan Seidenberg, MBA '81, chairman and CEO, Verizon Communications, as keynote speaker, as well as discussion panels, workshops, and tutorials by prominent leaders in the field of marketing. Thomas J. Quinlan, BBA '85, CEO of R.R. Donnelley, Visits Pace Thomas J. Quinlan III, BBA '85, president and CEO, R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company, visited Pace as an Executive in Residence on the New York City campus on April 13. Mr. Quinlan lectured to students on the topic of leadership and provided insights into the vast printing business he runs. Mr. Quinlan advised students to "not just present a problem to your boss, but give proposed solutions to the problem." He also provided tips on how to become a skilled communicator. 47th Annual Leaders in Management Award Dinner On April 29, 2010, the 47th Annual Leaders in Management Award Dinner honored two industry leaders - Pace Trustee David J. Pecker, BBA '72, Chairman and CEO, American Media, Inc. and Gurbaksh Chahal, founder, chairman, and CEO, gWallet, Inc. - and raised more than $600,000 for student scholarships and special projects. Maria Bartiromo, anchor of CNBC's "Closing Bell with Maria Bartiromo", served as mistress of ceremonies, and a spirited introduction from Donald J. Class of 2010 Receives Honors Outstanding doctoral, master's, and baccalaureate students were honored in New York City and Westchester this month at the Lubin School's Awards and Beta Gamma Sigma Induction Ceremony. One hundred and twenty six students were inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, the preeminent international honor society in business. James A. Reed, president, Jim Reed Consulting, was honored as the Beta Gamma Sigma Pace chapter honoree in Westchester and Patrick Edgar, BBA '85, audit partner, KPMG, LLP, was honored as the Beta Gamma Sigma Pace chapter honoree on the New York City campus. >> more info |

PUMA Scores at AMA Conference The Pace University Marketing Association (PUMA) garnered a number of awards at the American Marketing Association International Collegiate Conference in New Orleans, in April. The New York chapter won two awards in the Chapter Award Competition, including Outstanding Chapter Planning and Outstanding Professional Development. The team also finished first in the Best Educational Chapter Exhibit Competition. The Pleasantville chapter brought home awards for Outstanding Communications, Outstanding Community Service, and Outstanding Membership. >> more info |

Advertising Olympics Pace University's New York City Advertising Team placed second out of a field of nine teams for the third time in the last four years in this year's American Advertising Federation's (AAF) National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC). The NYC Team also won an award for the Best Media Plan. The Pleasantville Ad Team placed fourth in the competition. Judges singled out the Pleasantville team's presentation as being the most engaging. The NSAC is the premier college advertising challenge and is also referred to as the "Olympics of Advertising." It provides more than 3,000 college students with real-world experience by requiring a strategic advertising campaign for a corporate sponsor. >> more info |

Faculty Bookshelf Eric Kessler, PhD, professor of management and founding director of the Business Honors Program at Lubin recently had his book, Management Theory in Action: Real-World Lessons for Walking the Talk published. Management Theory in Action provides real-life accounts of how actual people have used classroom-taught theories and skills to better understand and perform at their jobs. Practical guidelines are included to help the reader use these lessons to become a stronger individual, engage in more effective interactions, and build more productive workplace environments. Dr. Kessler has had three books published in the last four years. The other two books include the Handbook of Organizational and Managerial Wisdom (2007) and Cultural Mythology and Global Leadership (2009 - available in paperback in 2010). >> more info |

EDHEC Professor Presents Book On Wednesday, April 21, Anne Witte, Ph.D., assistant dean and professor of Culture and International Communication at EDHEC Business School in France, presented her recently released book Past and Future Cultures on the downtown NYC campus, at an event sponsored by Lubin's Center for Global Business Programs. An author of more than 20 publications, Anne Witte combines expertise in a range of the humanities and social sciences to provide interdisciplinary instruction to management students at EDHEC. Her unconventional book takes the reader on a journey to explore the gradual internationalization of past cultures as they become the societies of the present. >> more info |
| Seventh Annual Business Plan Competition Three contestants took home prizes for their winning business plans at the Seventh Annual Pace University Business Plan Competition. Winners included Matthew Brown (first place for Life Cycle Solutions), Jonathon Lentine (second place for Advanced Road Hazard Simulator), and Robert Caucci, Stiliyan Lazarov, and Jeremy Pease (third place for Resolutions). This year's theme was "Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Israel." The Pace University Business Plan Competition is held to foster entrepreneurial spirit among students, promote practical business skills, and encourage the creation of new ventures. >> more info |

Beta Alpha Psi Annual Dinner Lubin's Iota Lambda chapter of Beta Alpha Psi hosted its 14th Annual Spring Dinner on April 19. The theme, "Ethics, Integrity, and Independence of Mind," focused on the importance of ethical behavior in the workplace. The dinner featured keynote speeches by Dan Bena of PepsiCo, Dr. Steven D'Agustino, and Blane Ruschak of KPMG. Beta Alpha Psi focuses on the significance of professionalism and community service among its members. >> more info |

Student Restaurant Helps Haiti On April 15 and 22, Lubin students in MGT 309, Restaurant Management, changed the night culture on the New York City campus with the opening of Besito Picante, a student-operated Mexican restaurant. Besito Picante demonstrated that students can indeed put theory into practice. The students developed the restaurant concept and used their entrepreneurial skills, working in collaboration with Lackmann Culinary Services, to design a quality dining experience. Tips and profits exceeding the class' target were donated to Yéle Haiti, a charitable organization that is helping to rebuild Haiti. The class has already donated over $700 in tips. Those interested in contributing to Yéle Haiti's relief efforts may text "YELE" to 501501 to make a $5 donation. >> more info |
