The Real Pepsi Challenge
On October 15, a panel discussion will be held at the Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts at Pace's downtown campus, focusing on Stephanie Capparell's book, The Real Pepsi Challenge. Richard Zannino, CEO, Dow Jones, will be among the panelists, along with the author. The discussion will focus on historical and current issues relative to race and diversity in corporate America and will be moderated by the Today show's Al Roker.

[How to Become a Millionaire!]   How to Become a Millionaire!
The Make Mine A Million $ Business Program, launched in 2005 by the Count Me In Foundation, is coming to Pace. The pitch contest, which will be held on October 23, is for independent women business owners who want to increase their revenues from the $200,000 - $700,000 bracket to $1 million. Pace faculty will serve as guest speakers at the event, which rewards winners with a financial, marketing, and technology package that will hopefully catapult their business past the million dollar mark.

Be sure and save the date for the 15th Annual Lubin Alumni Achievement Award Luncheon, which will be held on Friday, December 7, 2007, at One Chase Plaza. Jack Ribeiro, BBA '78, global managing partner, Global Financial Services Industry, Deloitte & Touche USA LLP, is the honoree. [Augustine P. Mahiga]   Tanzania's Future
Tanzanian Ambassador, Dr. Augustine P. Mahiga, will discuss Tanzania, its development, strengths, and the challenges faced by its economy in the future on October 22 at Pace's downtown campus. For students who would like to explore Tanzania in depth, there will be a field study trip to Tanzania from March 13 - 23, which will explore the commercial and social entrepreneurial issues that currently affect the country.

Homer S. Pace Medal
On Thursday, October 11, on the Pleasantville campus, the Lubin School is hosting the Homer S. Pace Medal dinner. This event is held to honor seniors in area high schools who were selected to receive the Medal in recognition of their academic achievement and interest in pursuing a career in accounting or other business fields. The students are provided with an introduction to Pace and have an opportunity to meet with Lubin faculty and students as well as representatives from various campus offices.

On October 11, 2007, Pace Law School and the Lubin School of Business is presenting "Dynamic Places Workshop - Redevelopment Successes: Explaining How Complex Urban Revitalization Projects Work - The Stamford Story-Tresser Square Project." The workshop will address issues critical to the success of cities in the New York metropolitan area that are experiencing exciting, but often unplanned growth and development. Industry leaders and developers will learn why Stamford, Connecticut, is a hospitable place to work and how they may secure the city's support.

Michael Cangemi, BBA '70, president and CEO, Financial Executives International (FEI), is among Accounting Today's Top 100 Most Influential People. The publication is the premier news vehicle for the tax and accounting community. Cangemi was the 2003 honoree at Lubin's Alumni Achievement Award Luncheon (AAAL), which raises funds for scholarships for outstanding students with financial need, was a member of AAAL Steering Committee, and has served on Lubin's Accounting Advisory Board.

  Smoking Cure?
Pedro Lichtinger, president of European Pharmaceutical Operations, Pfizer, will visit Lubin on Wednesday, October 31, to address MBA students on "Marketing and Value Creation in Pharmaceuticals." Mr. Lichtinger will speak about Pfizer, the world's largest research-based pharmaceutical company, and explain the company's business model, the role of marketing and other important topics. In addition, he will focus on the marketing of Champix, a novel pill for smoking cessation in adults. Champix was launched earlier this year in Europe and overall it is a major success.

Phelps, MBA '08, Fortune Finalist
William Phelps, MBA '08, winner of the Third Annual Pace Pitch Contest, is one of three student finalists in the Fortune Small Business Fifth Annual Business Plan Competition. This year's competition pits student entrepreneurs against seasoned business owners. Winners of the competition will be revealed in the November issue of the magazine. Phelps' innovative card game, Yamodo, for which he garnered first place in Pace's Pitch Contest (edging out contestants from Harvard and Princeton), is available through outlets such as BarnesandNoble.com.

Eugene Celentano, retired head of international marketing at Texaco Inc., has recently joined Lubin's Advisory Board. He served in various senior positions during his long and successful career at Texaco, most recently responsible for all Texaco International Marketing and Manufacturing operations in Latin America, West Africa, and Europe.

The Namesake
This past summer incoming freshman had a reading assignment, Pulitzer Prize winning author Jhumpa Lahiri's The Namesake. "Nonfiction can't always let you experience life the way people live it and feel it. We think this will motivate students to better understand human behavior and get them away from the stereotype that business is mostly finance, strategy, logistics and control," said Lubin's dean, Joe Baczko.

  Professor Surendra Kaushik's School For Women
The Helena Kaushik Women's College, the brainchild of Surendra Kaushik, professor of finance, recently held its sixth graduation. Located in the village of Malsisar in Rajasthan, India, the Helena Kaushik Women's College continues to add more educational offerings, including a college of law. Kaushik created the school, which is named for his wife, after reading an article citing that only 1% of women living in India hold college degrees. The Kaushik Center provides higher education to women in rural areas who wouldn't normally have access to these opportunities.

International Field Study Trips
A group of 12 Swedish Executive MBA students from FEI University, Stockholm were hosted by Lubin's Center for International Business Development (CIBD) in September for a series of lectures in marketing and visits to Bloomberg and the World Bank. In 2008, the CIBD will coordinate International Field Study courses for students traveling to Brussels and London, Zurich and Milan, China (Beijing Hong Kong, and Shanghai), and Tanzania, Africa. The CIBD will also welcome 20 students from Tokyo Keizai University (TKU) in Japan and 15 students from Stralsund University in Germany.

The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Pace will be a participating sponsor of the 2007 NY Xpo for Business event, the largest business show in New York, at the Jacob Javits Convention Center on November 28, 2007. Over 15,000 attendees are expected and will enjoy over 600 exhibits covering B2B solutions in extensive categories. Five discipline-focused educational tracks will be presented by leading business experts.
