Lady Gaga Designer: Asher Levine, BBA '10
Asher Levine, BBA '10, attained a most enviable post among designers. Within a few months of graduating from the Lubin School of Business in May 2010, he had designed two famous items for Lady Gaga: a black motorcycle jacket she wore in Rolling Stone's July issue and a white straightjacket coat she wore to her Today Show performance. The 22-year old menswear designer who loves fashion to an "obsessive, obsessive degree," came to New York City in 2006 to attend Pace to pursue a business degree. "I knew how to make clothes, but needed to know accounting, marketing and all the things fashion school leaves out." [Lubin and Wilson Center Welcomes State Department Entrepreneurs]   Lubin and Wilson Center Welcome State Department Entrepreneurs
This October, Lubin partnered with Pace's Wilson Center for Social Entrepreneurship and the US State Department to host a panel discussion for 30 international delegates of the State Department's International Visitors Program. Associate professor of management, Melissa Cardon participated in the panel discussion on "What Makes a Successful Social Enterprise?" Lubin students were in attendance and along with the delegates, were engaged in a dynamic Q&A; session following the panel discussion. This event culminated in a three-week US tour for these international entrepreneurs, which included visits to the White House, the Grand Canyon, Pace, oh, and Century 21 Department Store!

Ibm.com GM Visits as Executive in Residence
Paula Summa, BBA '78, MBA '84, will be visiting Lubin's Pleasantville campus as an Executive in Residence on November 29, 2010. As the general manager of ibm.com, Ms. Summa leads a 5,000 person worldwide team responsible for driving approximately 11% of IBM's total revenue. Ms. Summa will be lecturing to students on sustainability and providing insights into cutting-edge technology methods. She is a member of the Lubin Advisory Board and was honored as the 2008 honoree at the annual Lubin Alumni Achievement Award Luncheon.

[The Changing Face of Warfare]
General Charles C. Krulak
   The Changing Face of Warfare
Lubin students and faculty attended a new Pace series of one-on-one discussions hosted by President Steve Friedman. Kicking off on October 12, the series' first guest was retired General Charles C. Krulak, who addressed the Pace community on the changing face of warfare. Extremely well decorated, General Krulak attained the nation's third highest military decoration that can be awarded to a member of any branch of the United States armed forces - The Silver Star. General Krulak offered an insider's view on the war in Afghanistan.

Lubin Professor Recognized as National Leader
Eric Kessler, PhD, professor of management, recently returned from the 2010 Joint Civilian Orientation Program (JCOC) - an outreach program sponsored by the Secretary of Defense. Dr. Kessler visited the Pentagon and flew to numerous military bases to meet with generals and admirals from each of the military services. He also engaged with troops in the field by participating in anti-terrorism/insurgent training with Army Rangers, military convoys and live-fire drills with the Marines, demonstrations of the newest, fastest ship in the Navy, and Air Defense command center simulations with the Air Force. Dr. Kessler returns to Lubin enriched by the experience and eager to integrate its lessons into his teaching, scholarship, and leadership development program. He is the director of Lubin's Business Honors program.

[New Scholarship Opportunity for Accounting, Tax, and Law Students]   New Scholarship Opportunity for Accounting, Tax, and Law Students
Through the diligent efforts of accounting faculty members Barbara Farrell and Pat Healy, Ernst and Young has established a Fund for Excellence in Accounting Education and will provide scholarship awards of $5,000 each to outstanding Lubin students in a qualified undergraduate or graduate accounting program. Lubin Taxation and JD/MBA students may also apply for this scholarship. Ernst and Young LLP established the Fund to promote educational excellence in accounting at Pace. The application deadline is Friday, October 29, 2010.

Beta Alpha Psi Students Attain National Distinction
Due to their outstanding efforts during the 2009-2010 academic year, Lubin's Iota Lambda chapter of Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) has been recognized by the Board of Directors of Beta Alpha Psi as a Superior Chapter. The chapter has excelled in academics, professionalism and leadership. Iota Lambda will receive a plaque and monetary award as part of their superior distinction. The chapter also received the Gold Chapter Award for the second year in a row. Out of 273 BAP chapters nationwide, only 15 received this highest chapter designation. [Register for the Pace Pitch]   Register for the Pace Pitch
Registration for the Seventh Annual Pace Pitch Contest is officially open. Entrepreneurs are encouraged to take advantage of this great opportunity in an effort to build entrepreneurial skills and savvy. The contest is based on the Elevator Pitch concept popular in the venture capital community. Competitors submit an extremely concise presentation of an entrepreneurial idea, business model, marketing strategy, competitive analysis, and financial plan. Pace Shines in New Rankings
Pace University has been ranked by Forbes.com as one of the top 20 "colleges that will make you rich." The Forbes survey echoes previous findings from a PayScale/Business Week survey that found the starting median salary of recent Pace graduates was in the same league as that for graduates of Yale, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton, Stanford and Columbia. According to the article, "the Ivy League isn't the only path to big bucks." Recently, the Daily Beast also ranked Pace as one of the five safest colleges and universities in New York City.

During the spring 2011 semester, Lubin graduate and undergraduate students will have an opportunity to experience and understand global economies outside of the classroom through international field study trips. Students will visit Brazil, China, Denmark, Japan, and Sweden, and will be in a position to network with senior business officials and gain closer insight into foreign economies.
