Overview
The general accounting major is designed to provide students with a broad-based course of study in accounting, and an opportunity to develop, through the use of electives, a specialization in such areas as information systems, finance or managerial accounting. This program is not intended to prepare students for the CPA examination.

The relevance and innovation of Lubin's programs has resulted in our being awarded the prestigious AACSB Accounting Accreditation, a distinction that only 167 schools across the nation share. AACSB International, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, is the premier accrediting organization for business schools in the world. Pace is among the fewer than 3% of business schools nationwide that have both professional and accounting accreditation from AACSB.

Program and Courses
This program offers numerous elective choices for students so that they may explore other business areas while still receiving a strong accounting foundation. Students should be able to demonstrate a full understanding of financial statement preparation, interpretation, and cost analysis for decision-making. A judicious choice of electives allow students to use their cross-disciplinary knowledge and skills to solve realistic business problems across several functional areas of a firm. Accounting Labs are staffed by peer tutors and offer assistance in the foundation and upper-level accounting courses by working in small group tutorials. Peer tutors are accounting majors who have completed specific courses and received a B+ or better. Professional consultants are Pace faculty members who are familiar with the difficult content areas. Specific areas include: fundamental accounting principles and financial and managerial accounting.

In December 2007, the Bureau of Labor Statistics projected an 18% increase in employment growth for accountants and auditors from 2006-16. The general accounting major prepares students for a wide variety of rewarding careers in corporate, non-profit, and government areas. Our graduates are sought after by employers because they are able to apply the skills they learn to solve real world business problems. Students in this major are qualified for certifications, such as CMA (certified management accountant) and CIA (certified internal auditor).

Corporate Internship Opportunities

There are a variety of internships available for general accounting majors at large multinational corporations such as Pepsi, JPMorgan Chase and IBM.
