Ivan Fox

November 21, 2006

It is with deep sorrow that I inform you of the passing away this morning of Ivan Fox, long time colleague, friend and distinguished faculty of Lubin and Pace University. Ivan earned his BBA in Accounting from Pace College in 1954, an LLB from New York Law School in 1957, as well as an LLM from NYU in 1963. Ivan's teaching career at Lubin spanned 48 years, during which time he was awarded the Outstanding Teachers Award on three occasions and taught over 30,000 students. He was also Chair of the Law Department from 1977 to 1992. Above all else, Ivan was a steadfast supporter of our University and champion of his students. He will be greatly missed.

Ivan Fox, BBA '54

Beloved Pace University alumnus and faculty member for nearly 49 years, Fox was a significant part of Pace's history. He taught thousands of Pace students as professor of legal studies and mentored many other Pace faculty members as chair of the Legal Studies and Taxation department for more than 15 years, from 1977 to 1992. He was well regarded in his field as a legal educator and authority in the area of business law and he and his firm were nationally known for preparing candidates for the CPA examination. A student advocate and adviser, he was recognized many times as an outstanding teacher as well as for distinguished service by student organizations such as the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) and the Student Government Association (SGA), the Stonewall Coalition, among a few.

Fox seized every opportunity to connect with his current students and reconnect with his former students. A familiar face at Pace's annual alumni reunion in New York City, he also joined Pace alumni on travel weekends in Puerto Rico, Las Vegas, New Orleans, and Miami. A stalwart supporter of his alma mater, Ivan attended Lubin and Mortola lunches, spoke at Seminar Day, and participated in University Fest, as well as numerous other alumni events. Fox will not only be remembered as the author of Pace's "Alma Mater," but also as an exceptional educator who remained in the hearts and minds of his students after they left Pace.

Fox was a strong supporter of Pace University and our students, the Lubin School of Business, and its academic programs. Through his thoughtfulness and generosity Ivan established the Ivan Fox Endowed Professorship at Pace University. The family has requested all donations in Fox's memory be directed to this fund. Please send donations to Pace University, One Pace Plaza, New York, NY 10038, Attn: Magdalena Rybicki, Director of Development and Alumni Relations, Lubin School of Business, or contact her at (212) 618-6418 or mrybicki@pace.edu.
