Facebook Guide
Facebook Pages vs. Profiles

Facebook Pages & Profiles are used for different purposes based on your needs. For university accounts we typically recommend creating a Facebook Page. Review both options and determine what works best for you!
Pages: have advanced marketing features for managing your brand or business on Facebook. Pages can be maintained by multiple people on your team, have insights to understand who your fans are, and can perform more targeted postings.
Profiles: with subscribe are ideal if you want to personally connect with friends, family and other people who are interested in you. It’s fun to receive updates from friends and others that you want to subscribe to, and it’s easy to publish to your subscribers on the go. Anyone who subscribes to your profile can receive your public posts in their News Feed.

Facebook Timeline: Facebook's newest design release, Timeline, changes the default profile from a list of your most recent updates to a complete summary of your entire life since birth. It includes photos, videos, status updates and locations you have visited. The new Facebook profile is divided into two main columns, with a line down the middle representing the passage of time. This design has been extended to brand pages as well. Some of the prominent changes include a new layout with cover photo, highlighting features and the ability to edit and update without navigating to a separate page. These new features present a huge opportunity for brands that want to tell a more engaging and authentic story. Video of Timeline |

Viewers on average look at them first and for the longest amount of time. That is why it is important to create a powerful and effective cover photo. When designing your cover photo the specs for the area is 851 x 315 pixels.
