Addressing Charlottesville (NYC)
On September 19 in the Bianco Room, CCAR will be hosting a documentary screening and discussion about the rise of hate in America in the aftermath of Charlottesville, Virginia.
On Tuesday, September 19, join the Center for Community Action and Research (CCAR) for a seminar to discuss and reflect upon the unconscionable events that occurred in Charlottesville, Virginia this past August.
“Addressing Charlottesville and The Rise of Extremist Violence” will begin at 12:00 p.m. with an hour long documentary screening of Hate Rising, a documentary showing the rise of hate in America through the lens of journalist Jorge Ramos.
The seminar will continue from 3:30 p.m.–4:30 p.m. for a town hall discussion with Dyson Assistant Professor of Communication Studies Adam Klein and Kenneth Shelton Jr., of Black Lives Matter of Greater New York.
Both events will take place in the Bianco Room. All students are invited and encouraged to attend.
The Pleasantville Campus will also host a discussion on Charlottesville.
Charlottesville, Race, and Pace
Wednesday, September 20 | 9:00 p.m.–10:30 p.m. | Kessel Multipurpose Room
This campus conversation will explore the parties involved in the Charlottesville protest and counter-protest and the factors and history surrounding Confederate statues and their removal. Additionally, there will be dialogue on the current social and political environment and the role it plays in group assembly and protests.
