What do we want? Events! When do we want them? Now! The Office of Multicultural Affairs hosts a Protest 101 panel discussion, knitting for a cause, discussion groups, and more through February in NYC.
Have some free time on your hands? The Office of Multicultural Affairs wants you to put them up in protest, get to knitting, or place them firmly on the ground as you breathe in and out. February might be half way over, but OMA's events schedule is jam-packed with activities and discussion groups to get you through the rest of the month.
Wednesdays, February 18 and 25 │ 12:00 p.m.–1:30 p.m. │ Student Union, Reading Room
Sculpt a lean physique through classical pilates exercises on the mat. Performed barefoot or in socks, each pilates move will help strengthen your core and improve posture, flexibility, and stability. Your instructor Samone Weissman, a certified comprehensive pilates instructor, will take you through flexion, extension, stability, and mobility exercises, as well as full-body stretches. Please make sure to wear loose, comfortable clothing.
Urban Male Initiative Discussion Group

Knitting for a Cause

Join novice and seasoned knitters at the Office of Multicultural Affairs’ Knitting for a Cause Fridays, where you’ll help knit 400 hats/blankets to benefit pediatric cancer patients of Harlem Hospital for the upcoming December 2015 holiday season.

The US has once again been thrust into a maelstrom of protests. Join in a conversation that examines civil disobedience movements from the 1963 March on Washington to the 2014 Hands Up, Don’t Shoot campaigns. Panelists include Professor of Sociology Roger Salerno; Assistant Professor of Political Science Emily Welty, PhD; Projects and Operations Coordinator at the Center for Academic Excellence Leonard Burg; and Associate Professor of History Patricia Gloster-Coates, PhD, discuss how we keep the social justice momentum going once the protests are over. Moderated by Associate Professor of Communication Studies Satish Kolluri, PhD.
