Don't Be a Hazer (PLV)
National Hazing Prevention Week, which takes place from September 21–25, is an opportunity for the Pace Community to come together to promote the prevention of hazing. Get involved with a week’s worth of events!
Monday, September 21 | 12:00 p.m.–2:00 p.m. | Kessel Student Center, Boudreau Lounge
Commence National Hazing Prevention Week with your fellow Setters! A multitude of student organizations will be on hand, wristbands will be distributed (who doesn’t love a sweet, new wristband?), and a few weeklong NHPW contests will be announced.
Haikus Against Hazing
Monday, September 21 | Mortola Library
Help prevent hazing with your poetry prowess! Submit a haiku to enter Pace’s anti-hazing poetry contest for a chance to win a number of excellent prizes! The top three students will be recognized for their efforts, and the contest winner will be awarded a $100 VISA gift card. Haikus due November 1.
Tuesday, September 22 | 3:30 p.m. | Kessel Student Center, Butcher Suite
New members are required to attend one meeting in order to learn about University anti-hazing policies, as well as prevention strategies and ways to report hazing-related incidents. All PLV students are encouraged to attend.
NHPW Volleyball Game
Tuesday, September 22 | 6:00 p.m. | Goldstein Health, Fitness, and Recreation Center
Cheer on your Setters as they look to spike (and set!) their way to victory against Mercy College. The game will feature giveaways, as well as tabling with anti-hazing literature on the track-level.
Blue-Out Hazing PSA/Social Media Challenge
Wednesday, September 23 | 9:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m.
Use the hashtags #blueouthazing and #NHPW2015 to spread hazing prevention awareness on Twitter. The group with the most tweets on topics including how hazing hurts a community, resources on campus for reporting hazing, hazing statistics, hazing prevention ideas, etc. will receive up to a $300 gift card for dinner at Applebee's. Additionally, on Instagram, upload a short statement/PSA on why hazing prevention is important and/or why hazing hurts our community using the hashtags and the winning clip will receive a $100 gift card.
Greek Council Chats
Wednesday, September 23 | 9:00 p.m. | Kessel Student Center
Each governing council will host a discussion about hazing prevention within their respective groups—discussions will be facilitated by alumni and advisors of the council community.
NHPW Blue-Out Run
Wednesday, September 23 | 10:30 p.m. | Outside Alumni Hall
Join your friends and classmates for a nice stroll around Choate Pond. Anti-hazing information will be scattered around the pond, and students will be given dazzling blue glow sticks. Food will also be provided.
Thursday, September 24 | 12:00 p.m. | Kessel Student Center Well
Drop by the NHPW table to pick up some giveaways and event info, participate in a banner signing, and learn how to win even more NHPW social media contests!
Friday, September 25 | 12:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m. | Kessel Student Center, Multipurpose Room
The Student Government Association will announce contest winners, recap NHPW, and look to the future regarding continued hazing prevention at Pace.
Sunday, September 27 | Various Locations
Individual organizations will meet to reflect on what they learned from NHPW, and actively discuss and promote initiatives to best cultivate a healthy, hazing-free environment for the 2015–2016 school year and beyond!
According to HazingPrevention.org, more than half of college students involved in clubs, sports teams, and other organizations have experienced hazing. Your college experience is too valuable to be reduced to a mere statistic—make a difference today and get involved in National Hazing Prevention Week!
