Events: Pace Pitch Contest, Poets @ Pace
Two exciting annual events come to the Bianco Room within days of each other—first hear some poetry, then some business ideas!
POETS @ PACE
Tuesday, April 18 | 6:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m. | Bianco Room
Save the date of Tuesday, April 18, because for one night only, the Bianco Room will wax poetic as the acclaimed and accomplished poet Alice Notley will deliver the spring 2016 Poets @ Pace reading from 6:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m. Refreshments will following the reading, as well as a Q&A and book signing.
Alice Notley has published more than 25 books of poems, most recently Certain Magical Acts (Penguin, 2016), and has received a number of the most important poetry awards in America. One of her books was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. Her writing—experimental, contrarian, feminist, epic, and more—continually surprises and enlarges the scope of what we recognize as poetry.
Notley grew up in Needles, California in the Mojave Desert, a setting that informs her work. She received a BA from Barnard College and an MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, and spent some of her formative poetry years in and around the Poetry Project in New York City; she has come to be identified with the second generation New York School poets. Notley has lived in Paris for the past 25 years, but returns to America frequently to give readings and talks.
Says the poet Susan Howe, “In her fierce and powerful new collection, Alice Notley carries us to an ecstatic edge of disobedience and revelation.”
Poets @ Pace brings important poets to the Pace NYC Campus each semester and is organized by Pace Poet-in-Residence Charles North and sponsored by the Office of the Provost.
13TH ANNUAL PACE PITCH CONTEST
Thursday, April 20 | 5:30 p.m.–8:30 p.m. | Bianco Room
Traditions don’t start out that way—they just slowly happen, becoming incorporated and indispensable to the fabric of an institution. Now in its 13th year, the Entrepreneurship Lab’s Pace Pitch Contest is certainly approached tradition status.
On Thursday, April 20, from 5:30 p.m.–8:30 p.m., stop by the Bianco Room to watch student entrepreneurs present their “elevator pitch” to a distinguished panel of judges, potential investors, and an enthusiastic audience. Historically, the Pace Pitch Contest is one of the more exciting student competition events of the year, as ambitious entrepreneurs compete for the top cash prize of $1,000, as well as a potential life-changing investment.
The final hour of the contest will feature an awards ceremony and a networking session. From volunteering apps to marketing tools to applications intended to help individuals with physical disabilities, the Pace Pitch Contest routinely brings some of the most innovative ideas and dealmakers together for an evening of excitement.
For more information, check out the Pace Pitch Contest website.
As the warmer weather (finally) rolls in, Pace professors aren’t taking a break just yet—they’re lending their expertise to several publications, and we’ve got it all here for you. Talk about summer reading!
