Girl Effect: Unheard No Longer (PLV)
Sigma Lambda Upsilon brings the Girl Effect with special guests, performers, great food, and excellent company to the Pace Perk to benefit the LADYS mentorship program run by SLU.
One in seven girls in the developing world (excluding China) will be married before the age of 15 and if nothing changes, there will be 142 million child marriages in developing countries between now and 2020—that’s 37,000 girls a day. In addition, half of all first births in the developing world are to adolescent girls. However, when a girl in the developing world receives seven years of education, she marries four years later and has 2.2 fewer children. This is a small glimpse into the girl effect.
Girls are the most powerful force for change on the planet. By investing in them, we are investing in our future. On Saturday, April 18, stop by the Pace Perk from 7:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., as Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority hosts a fundraiser to celebrate female empowerment. The evening’s theme, “Voices of the Unheard,” will bring attention to people whose work goes unnoticed, and brave initiatives for change that need more attention.
The Girl Effect is a worldwide movement dedicated to creating a better future for young girls and ending poverty. The Pace Señoritas are doing their part with their annual fundraiser, featuring special guests, performers, food, and more. A portion of the proceeds from the evening’s fundraising will go to the LADYS (Leadership, Advancement, and Development of our Young Sisters) mentoring program, which is geared towards young girls ages 14–18.
Guest speaker MP Frias, a writer, student, and educator who speaks about current issues that are both controversial and relatable, will share her passion with the Pace Community.
Tickets are $7 for students, and general admission tickets are $10. Order your tickets now and enjoy a memorable night making a difference.
