Have No Fear—Volunteer!
Gear up for the season of giving, and lend a helping hand for Halloween and beyond!
Temperatures are dropping, which means the holiday season is fast approaching. Pace is gearing up with a number of awesome volunteering events, beginning with the upcoming Halloween weekend! Here’s where you can help:
Hamilton Madison House Halloween Party (NYC)
Saturday, October 31│10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.│Hamilton Madison House
Set aside the fright and spread some Halloween cheer (and candy)! Volunteers will celebrate Halloween with children through an assortment of games, arts, and pumpkin-inspired crafts. E-mail CCARNY@pace.edu to reserve your spot today.
Pleasantville Cottage School Halloween Party (PLV)
Saturday, October 31│3:00 p.m.–4:30 p.m.│Kessel Multipurpose Room
On Halloween, the Pleasantville Cottage School is setting up shop at Pace. CCAR is looking for group co-sponsorship of activity tables, as well as participants to hang out with the children of PCS! If interested, please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Knitting Salon (NYC)
Every Friday through December 4│12:30 p.m.–2:00 p.m.│41 Park Row, 9th floor reception area
As you may have heard, the Knitting Salon is back and better than ever. The Salon will be knitting hats and blankets for pediatric patients at Harlem Hospital every Friday*, and you and your knitwit friends are strongly encouraged to join! E-mail Denise Santiago, PhD, at email@example.com for more info.
*with the exception of November 27
SLC Fall Formal (PLV)
Friday, November 6│5:30 p.m.–8:30 p.m.│Kessel Multipurpose Room.
Second is the best! At least that’s what they’ll be saying about the second annual SLC Fall Formal, which will undoubtedly be a great way to stave off those post-Halloween blues. The CCAR is looking for volunteers to help with setup/cleanup, serve refreshments, and have a great time with Setters and new friends from the Successful Learning Center. If interested, please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
Fall 2015 Blood Drive (PLV)
Wednesday, November 11│9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.│Kessel Multipurpose Room
It’s not every day that you could be called a real superhero—but when it comes to participating in a blood drive, that’s definitely not an exaggeration. Put on your superhero costume (a tourniquet) and make a huge difference by showing up for PLV’s fall blood drive. You could really be a lifesaver, and we’re not talking about the candy.
Veteran’s Day Food Drive (PLV)
Wednesday, November 11│12:10 p.m.–1:10 p.m.│ Kessel Student Center, Conference Room A
Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity is proud to be holding their annual Veteran's Food Drive event, in which participants can donate food to those in need during the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. The student who donates the most food will not just come away with the great feeling of altruistic satisfaction—they’ll also win an Amazon gift card!
Thanksgiving Clothing Drive (PLV)
Wednesday, November 11│6:00 p.m.–9:00 p.m.│Kessel Multipurpose Room
The Black Student Union’s Thanksgiving Clothing Drive is an initiative supporting the homeless shelters and food banks in the area. Pace students can bring any related items—canned food, clothing, and toiletries in particular—in exchange for a hot, home-cooked pre-Thanksgiving meal. Do your part to help out today!
Operation Christmas Child (PLV)
Friday, November 13│7:00 p.m. –10:30 p.m.│Kessel Multipurpose Room│Kessel Gottesman Room
Operation Christmas Child, an annual event held by CRU, is one of the more special Christmas events around. The event is centered around a “packing party”—volunteers will help pack shoeboxes full of gifts to send to children throughout the world, to areas where children are unable to receive gifts. Toys, hygiene items, school supplies, and other useful items are welcome. The event will also include live music, food, and fellowship!
