This month, ITS provides updates on Blackboard downtime, security alerts, admission widgets, and more!
Blackboard Updates in August for Faculty and Staff
Blackboard Learn servers will be offline on Wednesday, August 20, from 4:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. to install a service pack upgrade. The upgrade will provide a number of enhancements to the Blackboard Learning Management System.
Gainful Employment Disclosure for Certificate Programs at Pace for Prospective Students
The Federal Government requires higher education institutions to disclose to prospective students certain information about Gainful Employment Programs including cost, financing, and success statistics. ITS assisted Financial Aid to create this view through the Certificate Programs site.
Coming Soon…Admissions Counselor Widget for Prospective Students
ITS worked with Enrollment Management to deploy the Admissions Counselor Widget onto their site for the new Drupal 7 web format. This widget helps prospective students connect with an Admissions Counselor in their state or region by using their geographic info along with campus preference. The widget will display the assign assigned counselor’s name and contact information. Prospective students can send an e-mail to get connected and receive more information about Pace!
IT Security Alerts for All Users: Microsoft Internet Explorer Browser Bug and Heartbleed Bug
Microsoft Internet Explorer Browser Bug: ITS would like to alert users to a security flaw in Microsoft’s Internet Explorer Web browser. The company is working on a patch, but until the patch is released ITS is recommending that users be extra cautious when browsing untrusted, externally-hosted (e.g., URLs not ending in pace.edu) websites. As a reminder to our Pace users, we must all be vigilant of phishing scams.
Heartbleed Bug: You might have heard of a bug that has been affecting servers called the “Heartbleed Bug” in some versions of OpenSSL. OpenSSL is widely used technology that encrypts data transferred online. As of Thursday, April 10, ITS has determined none of our major systems were affected by this OpenSSL flaw. This includes e-mail, Blackboard, Banner, Portal, and the Pace homepage. We are currently running full scans across our network to ensure that we have checked all online systems and are implementing steps to detect activity related to this bug.
ITS will be focusing on working with department IMOs to address all Pace-owned equipment within our University environment over the next few months. To find out more information on this subject, please reach out to the ITS Help Desk at (914) 773-3333 or e-mail us at email@example.com.
