Mind Your Business (NYC)
A boot camp for veterans, Pace women entrepreneurs roundtable, and the annual Pace Pitch contest. The Entrepreneurship Lab is getting down to business.
2015 is the year of the Entrepreneurship Lab—and we’re willing to put money on it. But just don’t tell our boss, because we’re not supposed to say that and we’ll deny every word including all of the ones you just read.
Here’s why. In early January 2015, the eLab set off to Israel to launch the Israel Entrepreneurship Initiative in partnership with the MIT Enterprise Forum of Israel at Tel Aviv University, thanks in part to a generous grant from Pace alumnus Michael Dezer, BBA ’68. Six student fellows are currently providing research, analysis, product testing, and additional support to two Israel-based companies that were selected to participate in the program.
And then there are these upcoming events and programs:
Spring 2015 Veterans Entrepreneurship Boot Camps
With the support of the Blackstone Charitable Foundation, the eLab has created a seven-week, technology-focused program that will help veterans connect their military experience to business concepts and provide valuable skills that can be applied immediately. Veterans will learn how to start their own businesses, acquire valuable technology skills, gain hands-on experience, collaborate, and network with industry experts. Participants will be able to immediately apply what they have learned in actual business settings. Sessions meet Thursdays from 1:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m. or 6:00 p.m.–9:00 p.m. at the Entrepreneurship Lab beginning on February 19. Apply today at www.pace.edu/bootcamp.
Pace Women Entrepreneurs Roundtable
Thursday, February 26 | 5:30 p.m.–8:30 p.m. | Bianco Room, NYC Campus
Directing a student-run web and mobile development agency. Creating customized dance performances and lessons in NYC. Supporting the US economy and providing consumers a place to find unique and innovative American-made products. Meet the finalists of the Ted and Pat Levine Proof of Concept Entrepreneurship Initiative: three female student and alumni entrepreneurs from Pace, who will take part in a roundtable discussion moderated by Allison Haunss, host, Working Woman Report. Following the discussion and Q&A, there will be a wine and cheese reception sponsored by Women in Business Steering Committee, a new initiative that will connect alumnae and students with one another for networking opportunities, mentoring, and speaking events. RSVP for the event here.
11th Annual Pace Pitch Contest
Thursday, April 16 | 5:30 p.m.–8:30 p.m. | Bianco Room, NYC Campus
The Pace Pitch Contest is based on the elevator pitch concept, popular in the venture capital community. It is an extremely concise presentation of an entrepreneur's idea, business model, marketing strategy, competitive analysis, and financial plan, which is delivered to potential investors. The premise is that it could be made in a few minutes, should the entrepreneur spot a potential investor on an elevator and have the opportunity to pitch their idea during the brief ride. On April 16, finalists will have exactly three minutes to pitch their new venture idea to a distinguished panel of judges and an enthusiastic audience. First place prize is $1,000, second place is $500, and third place is $250.
If you want to win $1,000 in three minutes and have a business idea you think can take the prize, register to compete! The deadline to register as a contestant is Monday, March 23, at 5:00 p.m. EST.
The Entrepreneurship Lab, located on the 3rd floor of 163 William Street, offers Pace students a unique space and environment to collaborate and innovate. The eLab aims to foster an entrepreneurial mindset—a way of thinking and acting that focuses on developing new ways to solve problems and create value.
