The Pace Effect
Pick. Click. Give. Pace launches the Pace Effect, a crowdfunding portal through which student orgs and groups can request funding for specific projects. It’s that easy.
On December 3, 2013, Pace’s annual giving team (housed within the Department of Development and Alumni Relations) launched The Pace Effect, a web-based crowdfunding portal through which Pace University’s student organizations can apply to receive funds for highly specific needs or projects. The launch coincided with Giving Tuesday, a nationally recognized day-long effort to help charities raise funds on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.
So, what is crowdfunding? Crowdfunding is the collective effort of many individuals raising money to support compelling projects. The Pace Effect platform allows students to exhibit their endeavors to a larger audience, and gives the donor an opportunity to support a cause that resonates with them/you.
And how does it work? Each student project or need is referred to as a “cause." The cause requires a minimum of $500 to a maximum of $2,500 (known as the “goal”). The causes are featured on www.pace.edu/thepaceeffect for a minimum of 30 days and a maximum of 120 days. The student organization will receive all funds raised, regardless of whether the goal is met, after the campaign closes.
Currently, groups on the site include the Chemistry Club, raising funds to host an Experience Chemistry Day and inspire high school kids in Harlem; Beta Alpha Psi, who is looking to attend a regional conference; Pace Model UN, looking to send students to a prestigious conference at the UN in Geneva; the women’s soccer team, Pace Ad Club, and the Entrepreneurship Lab.
The student organizations and University entities are responsible for providing copy, relevant photos and/or video, and promoting their campaigns via tools such as mail, e-mail, phone, and social media. Slots on www.pace.edu/thepaceeffect are available on a rolling basis.
