Senior Advice: Jaclyn Griffith
"Take these next four years to change your mind over and over again, learn about yourself, figure out your priorities, and absorb as much knowledge as you can," says graduating senior Jaclyn Griffith. "And please eat plenty of Rosella's Pizza in my honor."
This fall, Communication Studies major Jaclyn Griffith will serve as an Americorps Integrated Studies and Social Justice VISTA and will be placed in a public charter school in Central Falls, Rhode Island to research and implement a social justice curriculum for the school's 6th–8th graders. But before she goes off to change the world, she's got some words to share with the next class.
What’s something you wish someone had told you about your first week at Pace: Nothing—so much of the fun is figuring it out as you go along.
Favorite professor: Dr. Emilie Zaslow because she continuously challenges and cares about her students.
Most interesting class: Communication Technologies and Moral Panic, because it taught me how cyclical history is, and that reminds me that everything ends up okay in the long run.
Something you wish you had spent more time doing: Going out of my way to meet new people.
Favorite spot on campus: The Honors Lounge.
Best club, org, or activity for incoming students: Study Abroad Club! It's a great network of students interested in travel and intercultural communication.
Best way to prep for finals: Stay calm throughout and catch up on sleep over the weekend.
What piece of advice do you wish someone had given you to help prepare you for your senior year of college: Be open and excited about change, and don't worry about where you're going to end up after graduation—things are going to fall into place better than you think.
Advice for the Class of 2021: Take these next four years to change your mind over and over again, learn about yourself, figure out your priorities, and absorb as much knowledge as you can. There is no right or wrong way to do college, so listen to your heart and be confident that you have the ability to know what's best for you, and that everything will work out the way it's meant to in the end for YOU. And please eat plenty of Rosella's Pizza in my honor.
