RAGA MALA: A Tribute to Pandit Ravi Shankar
Saturday, April 5 | 7:30 p.m.
Curated by LiveSounds.org
Collaborating with the Ravi Shankar Foundation, this evening will feature Ravi Shankar’s compositions performed by an ensemble of noted Indian classical instrumentalists all of whom are connected to Pandit Ravi Shankar. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt on mohan vina (slide guitar) will lead a superb ensemble for sitar, sarod, shenai, sarangi, tabla, and vocals performing Ravi Shankar’s Indian classical ensemble works that he penned throughout his legendary career—many rarely, if ever, performed live. Compositions include music from the Gandhi Soundtrack, Tana Mana Project, Chants of India, Ravi Shankar’s Festival of India and more.
Ravi Shankar, the legendary sitarist and composer who passed away in December 2012, was India’s most esteemed musical ambassador and a singular phenomenon in the classical music worlds of East and West.
$5 student tickets and $15 faculty and staff tickets for each event can be purchased in advance at the Schimmel box office. For more information, visit http://schimmel.pace.edu/.
