Speaker Series: Founder of Latino U
Shirley Acevedo Buontempo, founder and executive director of Latino U College Access, is speaking at Pace on October 11.
Pace alumna Shirley Acevedo Buontempo isn’t afraid of success. With over 25 years of nonprofit and marketing experience, Buontempo channeled her expertise into founding the organization Latino U College Access—a Westchester-based nonprofit aimed at increasing college enrollment, success, and opportunity amongst Latino youth.
Founded in 2012, Latino U was recognized last year by none other than President Obama and the White House, which acknowledged Latino U College Access as one of 140 organizations answering the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics’ 25th anniversary call to action.
On Tuesday, October 11 from 12:00 p.m.–1:00 p.m. in the Student Union, Dyson’s Political Science department will feature Buontempo as part of the Speaker Spotlight Series, in association with Hispanic Heritage Month. All students are encouraged to attend—particularly students interested in nonprofit work, building success in the Latino community, and learning how to create a successful organization from scratch.
