Spotlight on Clubs: Self Defense (PLV)
Learn about the club helping students prevent and protect themselves from danger.
Although it is one of the newest clubs on the PLV Campus, Self Defense Club is kicking off to a great start and is eager to spread awareness about campus and real-world risks that students can prevent and protect themselves against. The Self Defense Club promotes safety and teaches techniques to identify, avoid, and defend in harmful situations. Learn more about the powerful club in this Q&A.
Q: What makes your club unique to Pace?
A: The Self Defense Club will provide a unique experience at Pace University because we are going to promote identifying and avoiding harmful situations, while also teaching how to defend yourself.
Q: How was this club formed?
A: The club was formed by Samuel Giordano. After seeing that Pace University does not offer many opportunities to have fun while learning useful techniques to keep safe, Sam took it into his own hands and with his previous experience, was able to get the club running.
Q: Why should people join your club?
A: If people are looking to meet new friends and interact as well as feel confident about themselves in all situations, then the SDC is the club for them.
Q: What signature events and achievements are you guys planning?
A: We are planning to have guest speakers talk about self defense and karate in general, and try to incorporate various elements of health and safety. Additionally, the club is looking to get certified by the SGA next semester to allow us to further have new and fun events and get the equipment necessary to continue to introduce new material into the program.
Q: If you could describe your club in one word what would it be?
Q: What are the goals of the club?
A: Our club's primary goal is to help raise awareness about on-campus risks and prevention in an active and fun environment.
Q: How can students get involved?
A: Students and spectators can get involved by just showing up! No experience needed. We will be offering classes where you can participate or just watch to gain understanding that will help protect yourself and the ones around you.
