We can’t believe it’s mid-September, but that doesn’t mean the welcome fun has to stop. This week, SDACA’s taking you around the city and back.

Monday, September 14

LBGTQAll Mixer
12:00 p.m.–2:00 p.m. | Meeting Room A
The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, Asexual, and Ally Center at Pace exists to create safe, inclusive, and welcoming campus environments. Meet friends and allies alike, and learn more about the LBGTQA Center’s ongoing social justice initiatives!

San Gennaro Festival
6:00 p.m. | Meet at Welcome Desk, One Pace Plaza
Can you say cannolis? The San Gennaro Festival, Little Italy’s annual celebration of Italian food and culture, is one of New York City’s most renowned autumn events. Grab a slice (or three) of Italian cheesecake, and then spend the rest of the year dreaming about next fall’s San Gennaro.

Mets Game
7:00 p.m. | Meet at Welcome Desk, One Pace Plaza
Take a ride out on the seven train and head into Queens to watch the New York Mets take on the Miami Marlins. In addition to playing host to the Mets, Flushing boasts some of the best dim sum on the planet.

Thinking about going Greek? Learn all about Pace’s sororities and fraternities, and the advantages to joining some of the most expansive student and alumni networks across the globe.

President and Provost Welcome Reception
12:10 p.m.–1:20 p.m. | Bianco Room
Join President Stephen J. Friedman and Provost Uday Sukhatme for a welcome reception to usher in an exciting new age at Pace University, as both our school and the downtown area of New York City surge into prominence!

Open Mic Night
5:00 p.m.–10:00 p.m. | Student Union
Today’s greats had to start somewhere. For you, that place may very well be the student union! From slam poetry to stand-up comedy to everything in between, open mic night is your chance to show off your skills en route to selling out those stadiums.

Amateur Night at the Apollo
7:00 p.m. | Meet at Welcome Desk, One Pace Plaza
James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, Ella Fitzgerald, and countless other world-famous musical acts began their careers and the world-famous Apollo Theater. Amateur Night features the future stars of tomorrow in one of the most prestigious new talent showcases in the entire world, at one of New York City’s most renowned live-entertainment venues.

Avenue Q
7:00 p.m. | Meet at Welcome Desk, One Pace Plaza
Tony-winning musical Avenue Q is the hilarious and heartfelt story of a bright-eyed college grad who comes to New York with big dreams and little money. He can only afford to live on Avenue Q but—good news—his neighbors turn out to be a remarkably funny bunch of characters.

Constitution Day
11:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. | One Pace Plaza front lobby
On this day 228 years ago, the U.S. Constitution was signed by 39 brave men who changed the course of history. Constitution Day, which will feature voter registration tables and programs focused on civic engagement, is a time for us to push the American legacy forward, and develop habits of citizenship that will help us forge ahead as a new generation of United States citizens. Equally as important, the event will feature patriotic-themed cupcakes!

Graduate Student Mixer
6:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m. | Welcome Center
Meet fellow graduate students on the same page as you, both professionally and personally, as you embark on this next stage of your education! Also, refreshments!

The King And I
7:00 p.m. | Meet at Welcome Desk, One Pace Plaza
Take a temporary journey to Siam, and experience the thrill of the recently revived Tony award-winning musical. A must see for any theater fan!

Museum of Modern Art
7:15 p.m. | Meet at Welcome Desk, One Pace Plaza
Commonly referred to as “MoMa”, the Museum of Modern Art is a celebrated New York institution dedicated to showcasing and honoring the finest modern and contemporary art the world has to offer. One visit to the MoMa, and you’ll likely be coming back for more!

Ripley’s Believe It Or Not

Few things are truly as one-of-a-kind as Ripley’s Believe It or Not. Ripley’s boasts over 5,000 unique exhibits, including the famous and riveting “Black Hole.” If there’s something worth bragging about on Instagram, it’s probably this. 

Madame Tussauds Wax Museum
7:15 p.m. | Meet at Welcome Desk, One Pace Plaza
Ever wanted to take a selfie with Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, or Barack Obama? Here’s your chance to make it happen! 

Discovery Exhibit: Hunger Games
7:15 p.m. | Meet at Welcome Desk, One Pace Plaza
May the odds ever be in your favor as you visit the Discovery Museum’s interactive Hunger Games exhibit. Volunteer as a tribute and immerse yourself into the world of Panem as you follow Katniss from her beginnings in District 12 to her emergence as the Mockingjay.

Saturday, September 19

Tanger Outlets

Head out to Tanger Outlets to stock up on some fresh fall styles. Or, simply pick up some much-needed essentials at reasonable prices!

Sunday, September 20

The Lion King
1:00 p.m. | Welcome Desk, One Pace Plaza
The circle of life would not be complete without checking out the classic tale of Simba. The Lion King has been running on Broadway for sixteen years, and became the top-earning title in box office history for stage production and film, a record previously owned by Phantom of the Opera.

Wicked
7:00 p.m. | Welcome Desk, One Place Plaza
The play that defies gravity. Engross yourself in the untold story of the witches of Oz, widely considered one of the most superb productions on all of Broadway.

Tuesday, September 22

Pace Board Fall Fest
12:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m. | Courtyard, Student Union, Meeting Room A, Reading Room
The temperatures are bound to drop, but the fun won’t stop as P.A.C.E. Board presents their annual Fall Fest, featuring food and activities all over One Pace Plaza. More info to come next week!

Wednesday, September 23

Personal Financial Series Workshop
5:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m. | Meeting Room A
If you’ve got your mind on your money, you should probably check out the personal financial series workshop—one of the more invaluable offerings on campus, the workshop will address pressing concerns and provide highly useful tips regarding personal finance.

Top of the Rock
5:45 p.m. | Meet at Welcome Desk, One Pace Plaza
There are views of New York City, and then there’s the Top of the Rock—the observation deck from the roof of Rockefeller Center enables visitors to check out ANY glimpse of the city. Get a birds-eye view of your new home, from the coolest possible angles.

Neon Roller Rink
8:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m. | Student Union
Lace up your skates and take yourself back to times of old with a throwback to the era of roller rinks. That’s right, there will be a roller rink built in the Student Union. No word on the availability of malted milkshakes.
