Sherman Raskin, Director of Pace University Publishing Program, to Address "Chinese Publishing in the USA" at Frankfurt Book Fair on October 15
NEW YORK, NY, October 13, 2009 - Sherman Raskin, Director of Pace University's M.S. in Publishing Program, will discuss "Chinese Publishing in the USA" at the 2009 Frankfurt Book Fair.
According to Raskin, “Chinese publishing in the United States is still in its infancy, with McGraw Hill and HarperCollins among the few publishers who have ventured out.”
Raskin's talk is part of an International Chinese Publishing Forum organized by China’s large Phoenix Publishing & Media Group (PPMG) to be held October 15. It will also provide concrete suggestions about how to develop opportunities in the US market.
Pace Publishing has for the past three years had a program of educating Chinese publishers about the U.S. book industry and has co-organized a number of publishing conferences in China as part of China’s acceleration of its educational efforts.
In May 2009, Pace University's ties to China were strengthened further when it opened the first university-based Confucius Institute in New York City, which was founded in partnership with the Chinese Language Council International and PPMG. Pace's Confucius Institute integrates pedagogical, scholarly, and professional expertise in promoting the study of Chinese language and culture. PPMG also is using Pace's Confucius Institute as a center for developing texts on teaching English.
