End Pollution

The stated goal in section 101 of the
1972 Amendments to the Clean Water Act (CWA)
includes the elimination of pollutant discharges into navigable waters by 1985.

More than half a century later, we are still seeing significant amounts of ‘impaired’ water ways.

One reason for this is that a great deal of water pollution does not necessarily flow out of a pipe but is an effect of runoff.
Contributing to this problem is urbanization (or the increase in paved surfaces) and
the harmful products we use on everything from our lawns to the feed for livestock that wash into our waterways.

More than 27 years after the deadline, how far are we from the end of water pollution?
