H1N1 Update 2

May 1, 2009

Dear Faculty, Staff and Students,

We just learned that the Pace student in New York City does not have the H1N1 virus but regular seasonal flu. There are no known cases of H1N1 on any Pace University campus.  The University is open for business.

We were informed of this diagnosis by the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene based on results of further testing by Centers for Disease Control.

It is extremely important for everyone to be mindful of health concerns at this time. If you are having flu-like symptoms, please do not come to class or to work. The symptoms that the Centers for Disease Control have connected with H1N1 are fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue, with some people also experiencing diarrhea and vomiting. These symptoms mirror those of many flu strains. We strongly recommend that you see your personal physician, or if you are a student, visit the Student Health Center if you are experiencing these symptoms. Please assist us in protecting the Pace community by practicing good health habits: use a tissue to cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing, wash your hands carefully and frequently, remain physically active, drink plenty of fluids and eat nutritious foods. Avoid close contact with those who are sick.

We are committed to keeping you informed.  Please visit the Web site at www.pace.edu/pace/h1n1flu for information on how best to protect yourself during flu season. Information is posted directly from the Centers for Disease Control, the World Health Organization and the New York City Department of Public Health and Mental Hygiene.

Thank you for your continued concern and cooperation.

Sincerely yours,

Stephen J. Friedman
