Ombuds Office Closing

June 12, 2009

To the Pace Community,

Pace has a variety of resources available to students, faculty, and staff to help address concerns related to their experiences here at the University.  The Ombuds Office has been one of those resources.  However, in reviewing the resources available, we identified the opportunity to continue this important work through other University Offices that already address, or could address, the issues handled by the Ombuds Office.  Accordingly, effective June 18, 2009, we will discontinue the University Ombuds office.  Despite the discontinuance of the Ombuds office, we will continue to offer the resources described below — and on the attached list — and encourage you to avail yourselves of the excellent services that they provide.

  • If you are a staff member or a manager who is looking to resolve workplace related issues, please contact the Employee Relations Department.

  • If you are a student who would like to resolve an issue related to your student life experience, please contact the Office of the Dean of Students on your home campus.

  • If you are a student who would like to speak to someone about an academic issue, including difficulty you may be having with a class or a professor, please contact the chairperson of the academic department.

  • If you’d like to speak to someone about concerns related to discrimination or sexual harassment, please contact the Affirmative Action Officer.

  • The Counseling Center on your campus is also available to help you with difficulties in complete confidentiality. Services include individual and group counseling.

  • If you are a student considering leaving Pace, have a customer service problem, have a concern and are unsure where to go, or if you have a suggestion for improving service at Pace University, please contact the Office for Student Success.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Pat Barnes, current Interim University Ombuds, who has held this interim role for the last year and served the Pace community for more than 10 years. And John Barkat, who, before leaving Pace last year to work for the United Nations, served 11 years as Ombudsman for the University. We appreciate and thank them for the contributions they have made to Pace University.
