The Center for Professional Education encompasses Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Programs,
Financial Planning Certificate Program, and the CPA Review Program.
The Pace CPE Program, as a licensed and registered sponsor of continuing professional education in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Delaware, assists CPAs in meeting mandatory CPE requirements by offering a variety of in-depth programs specifically designed to meet their needs, as well as the specific educational aims of the business community.
The Pace Financial Planning Certificate Program is registered with the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. and offers the required courses in fundamental financial planning, insurance planning, investment planning, income tax planning, retirement planning and employee benefits, and estate planning, all of which are necessary for qualifying to sit for the national CFP® Certification Examination. Recent participants in the on-site CPE and Financial Planning Programs include: IBM, JP Morgan Chase, Merrill Lynch, UBS, Citigroup Private Bank (both USA and Latin American Divisions), TD Waterhouse, Fidelity Investments, Smith Barney and many other corporate clients and public accounting firms. This year, we are offering a series of programs at the NY State Department of Taxation and Finance in New York City, and have developed an on-going relationship with this group.
CPA Review Program is now being offered to outside universities as well as Pace University students to prepare for the Certified Public Accountant license.
Certified Financial Planner™ Exam Review Program is a preparatory course for those who intend to take the CFP® Certification Examination.

Financial Planning Certificate Program
The Pace Financial Planning Certificate Program is registered with the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. and offers the required courses in fundamental financial planning, insurance planning, investment planning, income tax planning, retirement planning and employee benefits, and estate planning, all of which are necessary for qualifying to sit for the national CFP® Certification Examination.

Course Descriptions
FP I - Fundamentals of Financial Planning
The material covers topics relating to financial planning in general; including data gathering; processing and analyzing information; making recommendations; writing and implementing, and reviewing the plan. Course material also includes: regulations affecting financial planners; basic financial planning concepts such as: the time value of money, the economic environment, ethical, professional and legal considerations, budgeting, forms of business ownership and how to address inflation/volatility in financial plans.
FP II - Insurance Planning
The material covers the principles of insurance including; life, health, disability, homeowners, auto and other property and liability insurance; determining the amount and type of life insurance a client needs using a time value of money process; specific factors used to evaluate and select an appropriate type of life insurance and group insurance versus individual forms of insurance; Social Security; and insurance industry regulation.
FP III - Investment Planning
The material covers fundamentals of investing; including mechanics of investing in security markets, tax considerations, information sources, risk investments (stocks, bond, mortgage-backed securities, options, futures, CD's, etc.), marketability and liquidity, measuring of investment return, portfolio construction and management.
FP IV - Income Tax Planning
The material covers the individual income tax fundamentals, tax planning, tax aspects of investing in limited partnerships, tax implications of property transactions, family tax planning, tax advantaged investments, divorce and marital separation tax implications, tax accounting and calculations, charitable contributions, deferred compensation (qualified and non-qualified) and Alternative Minimum Tax.
FP V - Retirement Planning and Employee Benefits
The material covers the fundamentals of retirement planning and employee benefits plans; including the specific provisions of qualified retirement plans, money purchase, profit-sharing with 401(k) provisions defined benefit and target benefit plans, IRA's and SEP's; the recommendations for a specific qualified plan for a client; basic characteristics of employee benefits including group life insurance, group health coverage and non-qualified deferred compensation; and the income tax impact of benefits to both the employer and the employee.
FP VI - Estate Planning
The material covers the fundamentals of the estate planning process; pitfalls and weaknesses, the principles of estate and gift taxation, the concept of a unified transfer system, various techniques that may be used to plan a client's estate; features of trusts, property ownership, marital and charitable considerations, intra-family transfers, life insurance, gifts and post-mortem planning techniques.
