Caity (Caitlin) Grand, Technical Theater/Design (Stage Management) majorWhy did you choose Pace?
Well first off the location! I'm a theatre student, NYC is just about the BEST place you could go to for theatre! Second, I fell in love with the campus, from the first time that I came to Pace everyone was kind and helpful, and not only just to me but my Mom which made my choice even easier.
Favorite class:
That's a hard one... I have taken some amazing classes at Pace from Theatre History to English but my fav would have to be Public Speaking, I had soooo much fun in that class! I got to choose the topics that I wanted to present on which meant I was able to customize my speech and give it a little twist that no one had seen before!
Career aspirations:
I want to do so many things! But the top are to be a production tour manager for a pop/rock band (preferably the Jonas Brothers!!) and advise/teach technical theatre to middle/ high school kids, and show them that being on stage isn't the only place you can be a star.
Campus activities:
Pace Theatre Department (Stage Manager/ Crew), ASPIRE Volunteer
Advice for prospective students:
Stressing out never helps or fixes any situation, so stay cool. And NEVER forget to be TRUE TO YOURSELF!
Jason Joseph, Musical theater majorWhy did you choose Pace?
I mainly chose Pace because of the many challenges that will prepare me for the future. Under my Pace T-shirt it says "Work Toward Greatness." That quote spoke to me because I am a person who wants to work hard and achieve an immense amount of success. Pace to me is that essential step in achieving greatness.
Favorite class:
My favorite class so far is my Exploring Majors course. I like learning about the different career paths that I could take that match my capabilities and my values.
Career aspirations:
I aim to perform in a Broadway musical because performing is my passion. I would most likely do something on the side. I don't know what that something is just yet ... but that's what the Exploring Majors class is for! I'm a person who likes to wait and see what life's got in store for me. Of course preparation is important, but opportunities are everywhere.
Campus activities:
Pace Board
Youth leader and chorus director at church
Advice for prospective students:
The college experience is whatever you make of it. All the resources and opportunities are there so it's up to you to actually go and find where you fit in, and have fun!
Melissa Goodfriend, Communications Studies Majors, Why did you choose Pace?
I chose Pace because I wanted a change of atmosphere, but in an environment that was similar to where I went to high school. Pace was in the city with a very diverse campus and lots of opportunities. After I came for my first visit I knew this was where I wanted to be.
Favorite class:
My favorite class was University 101. Unlike most freshmen, I had University 101 during the second semester, so I ended up helping the freshmen who were new that semester. We all got to know each other on a very personal level and became close friends.
Career aspirations:
I would like to work in Public Relations or Media Relations somewhere within the entertainment industry.
Campus activities:
Kappa Delta Sorority - Girl Scout Chair, Recruitment Chair, Parliamentarian
Lambda Sigma National Honor Society '08-'09 - Executive Board Vice President
Pace Choir
Presidential Student Ambassador
Orientation Leader
Peer Leader
Advice for prospective students:
Don't be afraid to ask questions and get involved. When you get involved you make lots of friends and being busy helps to keep you organized and in control. And asking questions only benefits you; there's no such thing as a stupid question!
Charis Victory, Finance majorWhy did you choose Pace?
It's a great business school. I love the fact that is it close to Wall Street and in the heart of downtown Manhattan. When I took a tour of Pace I knew this was the place I wanted to be.
Favorite class:
In Finite Mathematics, Professor Baruch was the one who made the class interesting for me. He was very helpful and did not mind going over certain questions more than once.
Career aspirations:
My career goal is to be a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of a company, preferably a well-known clothing company of some sort. I want to be like Tracey Travis, who is the CFO and Senior VP of Polo Ralph Lauren.
Campus activities:
Peer Leader
Pace Board
Caribbean Student Association
University Placement Testing - Proctor
Advice for prospective students:
Take advantage of everything that comes your way. Pace is a great school that has a lot to offer. To reiterate a quote I once heard, "One day your life is going to flash before your eyes; make sure it's worth watching."
Kate Mudd, International Marketing and Biblical and Hebrew Studies double majorWhy did you choose Pace?
For as long as I can remember I wanted to be in the city and living the New York life. My dreams mean everything to me, and Pace supplied the perfect academic environment for me to study and grow. Pace University became my new home in every way.
Favorite class:
Accounting has become my favorite class of all. I enjoy the number crunching, the graphing, and the complex situational thinking. It doesn't hurt, either, that I have an awesome professor - Professor DiBenedetto.
Career aspirations:
I've always wanted that job on Wall Street, but I'm beginning to realize that I may only want to start on Wall Street for experience before moving on to something different, something more close to my heart. I aspire to one day design "sleep-away" camps throughout Europe.
Campus activities:
Residence Halls Association
Advice for prospective students:
Set goals for yourself and write them down, stay true to your dreams and don't allow yourself to waiver from them. There is no better time to achieve your goals than right now; don't delay or allow anyone to tell you that you are "too young," "too inexperienced," or that "it's not the right time."
Miranda L. Ronghi, Modern Languages and Cultures majorWhy did you choose Pace?
I knew Pace was the only place I belonged. I whole-heartedly believe in Pace's mission of opportunities, and I knew Pace would be the only place to transcend my dreams and become the woman I've always wanted to be.
Favorite class:
I only have a few classes taught in English, But I would say the class I took in Spain during June. It was on the history and culture of Spain. I have never learned so much in such a short period of time. Of course, it also furthered my fluency in Spanish.
Career aspirations:
Eventually, I know I need to be a teacher, but for now I want to travel the world and see what kind of a difference I can make.
Campus activities:
Kappa Delta Sorority: SET Leader and Philanthropy Chair
Advice for prospective students:
Find the college that fits your beliefs. If you are lucky enough to find one, don't stop until you get there, no matter what. And don't let anything stand in the way of your dreams.
Stephanie Cohen, Junior, BA Theater Arts-Acting/BA English Writing & LiteratureWhy did you choose Pace?
My first time visiting the school was actually for my audition into the Theater Department. I immediately fell in love, the Department, and the atmosphere around campus! After I was accepted, I knew that Pace was my number one. Though I was still deciding between two schools until almost May 1 rolled around, Pace offered me more scholarship money than my other choice. I knew then and now that I made the right decision!
Favorite class:
"Luz, Camara, Accion!: Film as a Mirror of Social Change" Learning Community (LAS 210) was one of the most interesting classes I've ever taken. Dr. Greenberg and Prof. Adler were two of the most amazing professors I've had while at Pace. We watched so many amazing films. It gave me a whole new appreciation for foreign films and Latin American cinema. Also, "Romanticism & the Modern World" (LIT212R) with Dr. Raubicheck and "Screenwriting" (ENG396B) with Prof. Danziger were two of the most interesting classes I've taken. I went into both of these classes not knowing much about their topics, but by the end of the semester, I had learned so much!
Career aspirations:
Being a working actor in Manhattan/doing something theater-related/a writer/working in a publishing firm!
Campus activities:
PALS Tour Coordinator
Pace Theater Department
Pace Choir
PaceMakers A Capella Choir
Orientation Leader 2009
Advice for prospective students:
I know that Senior Year can be a rollercoaster ride of emotion, but YOU WILL GET THROUGH IT! Try not to stress too much or wear yourself too thin, but at the same time, make sure you don't give into senioritis and give up second semester. It'll all be over soon enough, and then YOU'LL BE IN COLLEGE!! :D
Stephanie Krieg, Psychology major and Theater minorWhy did you choose Pace?
Pace has been my number-one choice for a number of years. The academics are amazing, the plethora of student activities is mind-boggling, and having your school's campus in New York City - "the capital of the world" - doesn't hurt, either!
Career aspirations:
I one day hope to be a high school guidance counselor, or a counseling psychologist in a private practice.
Campus activities:
Pace Board
Advice for prospective students:
Your college experience is what you make of it. Find a campus that you feel at home in and get involved with as many aspects of it as possible. Only you know which college is the right fit for you, so take your time during these next few months. Hopefully with our help here at PALS we can make your transition a bit easier and less stressful. Hope to see you around campus next fall!
Kevin P. Joyce, BA Theatre Arts, Directing concentrationWhy did you choose Pace?
When I was applying to Pace, their motto was "Opportunity", and I as I started learning more about the opportunities and advantages of attending Pace University and the New York Advantage, I fell in love. And we have been happy ever since!
Career aspirations:
Someday, as ego-maniacal as it sounds, I hope to star in a show that I wrote and directed. Or get my name on every marquee in Times Square, which ever comes first.
Campus activities:
Pace Theatre Coalition
Advice for prospective students:
You don't choose the college, the college chooses you. So find the right fit. Do your research, go on tours, visit campuses, befriend students etc. But above all, enjoy every minute of your time. Because, when college is over it's over.
Purvi Parmar, BFA Musical Theatre major and Biology minorWhy did you choose Pace?
Pace was a random application for me, but once I visited the campus and New York City I knew this was where I wanted to be. It was completely different than the ‘regular’ campus schools I had visited, but the atmosphere was great and everyone was really friendly and seemed to be really happy where that they were there. The more I looked around I realized that Pace really does offer so many opportunities and different experiences that another school probably could not. I also love the message ‘work towards greatness’ that Pace sends out. And where better to be inspired to work towards greatness than the heart of NYC?
Career aspirations:
Once I graduate I really hope to just get steady work as an actor. My dream would be to have a great role in a musical on Broadway, but let’s take it one step at a time now! My main aim is to be able to make a decent living off of performing!
Campus activities:
Pace theatre department, Honors College, NY Cares Volunteer
Advice for prospective students:
Don’t stress and be true to yourself when you are choosing the right college for you and once you are there. Make the most of your time at college, because it really will fly and then it’s time for real life, so work hard, have fun and experience as much as you can whilst you have the opportunity!
Rachel Menth, English Lit Major and Sociology minorWhy did you choose Pace?
I chose Pace because of the five year publishing program offered here. I will get a BA in English and an MS in Publishing in only five years, which will help save time and money. I also knew that living in New York City would be great for getting internships through Pace's Co-Op program and a job when I graduate!
Career aspirations:
One day I hope to be a literary agent or an editor at a major publishing company.
Campus activities:
ED2010, Pace Press, Honors College
Advice for prospective students:
Don't stress out too much once you get into college. Classes, internships, and jobs are important but you need to make time to have fun, too. Enjoy New York City and make it part of your learning experience!
Cindy Vargas: Accounting BBA/MBA majorWhy did you choose Pace?
New York City is such a great city, full of experiences and opportunities for anyone. Pace being in the middle of NYC made studying more interesting because of the chance to learn in a classroom and have an internship to use that knowledge. Also, Pace having the 5-year BBA/MBA Accounting program gives students the opportunity to excel in their classes and get so much accomplished in 5 years.
Career aspirations:
Once I graduate, I hope to have found a job in one of the Big 4 accounting firms and eventually work my way to become an accounting teacher.
Campus activities:
Student Government Association- Sophomore Class Vice-President, Tutoring Center- Math Tutor, Pace Christian Fellowship
Advice for prospective students:
Whenever an opportunity presents itself (no matter what it is), always think about it and ask yourself, “How can this change my in my future?” It can be a friend asking you to not go to class or just to join a club. Everything you do has meaning or an outcome and therefore must be well thought out. But have fun.
Pasquale Crociata: BFA Musical Theatre MajorWhy did you choose Pace?
I chose Pace because of the amazing opportunities I felt that I could get from going to school in the financial district of New York City. I knew when I was younger that I wanted to go to school in the city and Pace seemed like the perfect home. Because it’s near Wall St, the Pace community gets very quiet once the stock market closes, so it doesn’t feel like you’re living in the city that never sleeps. If you want that atmosphere its only a few subway stops away!
Favorite Class:
My favorite class was Men & Masculinities, a Women & Gender Studies course. The class was so interesting because the professor tied everything we were discussing into pop-culture, which made it easier to understand and way more fun.
Career aspirations:
To get paid to act. Broadway is usually the dream job from most musical theatre majors, but just being able to live in this city and do what I love, would make it all worthwhile.
Campus activities:
Resident Advisor – Office of Housing and Residential Life, Lambda Sigma National Honor Society '08-'09, Student Advocacy Committee, Pace Theater Department.
Advice for prospective students:
Don’t be afraid to take a risk. Playing it safe all of the time and never giving anything a chance will leave you with a lot of “What If’s.” So take that leap and experience every possible new thing that comes your way, because if something isn’t for you, there’s always an alternative.
